Regional Liaison Officer - Summer Casuals | Devonport MADEC Australia Devonport, TAS, AU
Looking for meaningful casual work this summer?
We're looking for 2-3 casual Regional Liaison Officers to join MADEC in Devonport for our busy summer period, working approximately December through to March/April.
This is a genuinely unique role supporting workers who have travelled from Pacific Island nations to live and work in Australia through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme.
You will be one of the people they can turn to while they're away from home - whether that means helping with transport or an appointment, answering a question, connecting them with local services, checking in on their wellbeing or stepping in when something unexpected happens.
It's practical, people-focused work with a real purpose.
What does the role look like?
As a Regional Liaison Officer, you'll build trusted relationships with PALM Scheme workers and provide practical, pastoral and wellbeing support throughout their placement.
You may find yourself:
Welcoming workers and helping them settle into the local community
Providing transport and assistance with medical or other appointments
Checking in regularly and building genuine relationships with workers
Helping with accommodation, community connections and everyday challenges
Providing wellbeing support and advocacy when needed
Liaising with MADEC, host employers and community services
Helping identify and resolve concerns before they become bigger issues
Supporting workplace safety requirements and toolbox meetings
Providing occasional after-hours or time-sensitive support when required
Could this work for you?
Pleasingly you're looking for extra work over summer, have some availability alongside another casual or part time role, or simply want to spend a few months doing something meaningful.
You don't necessarily need to come from one particular industry. Experience in community services, disability or aged care, health, education, multicultural services, employment services or other people-focused roles could translate beautifully.
More importantly, we're looking for people who are approachable, dependable and genuinely enjoy helping others.
You'll bring:
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Empathy and confidence working with people from different cultures
Good knowledge of Devonport and the surrounding community
The ability to work independently and use initiative
Confidence responding calmly when unexpected situations arise
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email
A current driver's licence and ability to travel locally
These are casual, seasonal positions, expected to run from approximately December through to March/April. Hours will vary according to worker and operational needs, so these roles are best suited to people comfortable with the flexibility that comes with casual employment.
Because some worker needs can be urgent or time-sensitive, being locally based and readily able to provide face-to-face support in the Devonport area is important.
If you're looking for summer work with a little more meaning than your average casual job, we'd love to hear from you.
Join MADEC and help PALM Scheme workers feel supported, connected and at home in their Tasmanian community.
