Job Description
Your New Role
We are seeking an accomplished executive to lead our Legal, Risk & Compliance portfolio and help shape the future of our organisation.
The Executive General Manager, Legal, Risk & Compliance is a critical executive leadership role.
Reporting to the CEO, you will serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team to navigate complex opportunities and challenges, ensuring the organisation remains compliant, resilient, and well positioned to achieve its strategic ambitions.
Your expertise and judgement will guide decision making, protect organisational interests, and strengthen governance and risk management across all areas of operation.
You will provide strategic leadership across legal services, enterprise risk, governance, procurement, compliance, and health and safety, ensuring the organisation operates with confidence, integrity, and excellence.
This is a unique opportunity to influence organisational strategy, guide critical business decisions, and protect the organisation's interests while delivering trusted advice across a diverse range of complex and high-profile matters.
This is a PSES2 Executive Contract.
This appointment is offered on a
five year fixed term contract,
presenting an outstanding opportunity for an experienced executive seeking to make a lasting impact.
Core Accountabilities:
Participate as a member of the Executive Team, contributing to the development of organisation-wide strategies, budgets, policies and culture to ensure the achievement of organisational goals.
Collaborate with business leaders to formulate and implement legal, risk and compliance strategies that ensure the benefits of Development Victoria's capabilities are realised, supported and responsive to stakeholder needs and priorities.
Regular participation in industry and market related events,



demonstrating an active interest in stakeholders across government, community and the private sector.
Ensure the provision of cost-effective, high quality, strategic and timely legal services to the organisation, focusing on the priorities of the organisation.
Review (including obtaining briefings from Legal Counsel) and provide sign off to CEO on contracts that require execution under seal.
Manage disputes and investigations by assessing the most appropriate action, considering the organisation's legal position and commercial and reputational considerations.
Ensure corporate knowledge is captured through the development of systems, precedents, policies and tailored training to enhance cost-effectiveness, improve compliance and to reduce legal risk and duplication of work.
Analyse risks and make recommendations to the organisation as to acceptable positions.
Develop, maintain and advise on policies and guidelines relating to compliance (including procurement) and governance.

Key skills, knowledge and experience:
Education
Must be admitted to practice as a solicitor in Victoria
Experience (essential)
Demonstrated senior leadership experience in a well-regarded in-house legal team or law firm is essential.
Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, risk analysis and risk management
Demonstrated commercial and/or contract law experience.
Demonstrated experience in the strategic management of disputes.
Demonstrated experience in project management.
Experience (desirable)
working in a government-related workplace and/or within legislative parameters
advising on probity issues in a bid process and procurement in Victoria
property and/or construction law
major projects
