Seeking 5-9 years PAE across a broad mix of parenting and property matters, often involving layered personal and financial issues.
Lead, mentor and shape a growing practice in Canberra
Autonomy, flexibility and genuine partnership support
Hybrid working with a culture built on trust
This is a firm where Family Law sits at the heart of the practice, requiring precision, judgement and the ability to guide clients through some of the most challenging periods of their lives. The matters are rarely straightforward, and the lawyers here are trusted to think, not just process.
The team handles a broad mix of property and parenting matters, often involving layered personal and financial issues. You'll work across sensitive parenting disputes, high-conflict family dynamics, and complex asset pools that can include business interests, international elements and intricate financial structures. It's the kind of work that rewards both technical strength and emotional intelligence.
This role is designed for a Senior Associate ready to step into leadership. You'll supervise a junior team member, play a key role in managing matters, and contribute to the continued growth of the practice. There is clear scope to shape how the team operates and to build your own reputation within the firm.
Like any well-run organisation,
the firm understands that solid lawyers don't need to be micromanaged. You'll have autonomy over your files, the ability to build meaningful client relationships, and the space to develop your own style as a practitioner and leader.
The culture reflects that philosophy. The team includes many lawyers with young families, and flexibility is handled with common sense rather than rigid policy. Most lawyers spend around three days in the office, with hybrid arrangements evolving naturally. Billable expectations are deliberately sustainable, typically around 4-6 hours per day depending on experience.
Beyond the work, the firm invests in its people. Regular social events, family days and team activities are part of the fabric of the business, along with an annual firm-wide day off to reconnect and recharge.
You'll be joining a long-established firm with a strong reputation in Canberra, with a modern, collaborative approach. The partnership is accessible, progression is transparent, and lawyers who take ownership of their practice are supported to grow into leadership roles.
If you're looking for a step up into a genuine Team Leader position – without sacrificing balance or autonomy – this role is worth considering.
