Leongatha Optometrists is looking for a part-time Optical Assistant to join its independent practice in the heart of Leongatha.
You may already have experience in optics, healthcare, retail, reception or administration. Equally, you may be completely new to the industry. For someone with the right attitude, communication skills and willingness to learn, the practice will provide training from the ground up.
What the role involves
You'll help create a welcoming, well-organised experience for patients throughout their time with the practice.
As your knowledge and confidence develop, your responsibilities may include:
Welcoming patients and responding to enquiries
Coordinating appointments and supporting reception
Assisting patients with frame selection and styling
Learning about lens options and optical recommendations
Processing orders and completing practice administration
Supporting frame adjustments, collections and repairs
Helping the wider team keep the practice running smoothly
What will help you succeed




More important than previous optical experience will be your:
Warm and confident communication style
Ability to listen and explain information clearly
Willingness to learn and apply new knowledge
Attention to detail and organisation
Confidence using everyday technology and administrative systems
Reliability and ability to contribute within a small team
Interest in helping people make considered decisions

Leongatha Optometrists has provided eye care to the Gippsland community for more than 45 years.
You'll work alongside the Optometrist/owner and Practice Manager, who are in the practice each day, as well as an experienced Optical Dispenser working four days per week. This means practical guidance will be readily available as you develop your optical knowledge.
This is a part-time position, with the days and hours open to discussion based on the successful candidate's availability and the needs of the practice.
