Location and Work Arrangement
This is a full-time, home-based position located in Victoria, with a company vehicle, regular field work and interstate travel opportunities.
The Role
We are seeking a Soil Scientist/Senior Soil Scientist to join our team of experienced and dedicated scientists. The role will involve using your technical skills and knowledge on a wide variety of projects for both public and private sector clients including:
- Undertaking field investigations and sampling programs at a range of sites involving the collection of soil, sediment, surface and groundwater samples and supervision of contractors
- Project scoping, proposal writing and fieldwork preparation
- Undertaking all works consistent with our safety values, systems and procedures
- Interpreting and synthesising field and analytical data
- Preparing scientific and technical reports using fundamental soil science to deliver innovative and practical solutions, and advice
- Working as part of a broad team to deliver soil science expertise to SESL Australia’s valued clients.
What You’ll Bring

Ideally you will bring:
General Requirements:
- A degree in agriculture, soil science, horticulture, geology, environmental science or relevant earth sciences
- A passion for field-based project work including soil sampling, water sampling, in-field soil surveying, contractor supervision and safety management
- Capacity to work autonomously with support and mentoring in a collaborative team environment
- Effective written and oral communication skills and the aptitude to confidently liaise with project teams, subcontractors and clients
- The drive and commitment to succeed and to be a strong contributor to the growth and success of SESL Australia
- A full driver’s license and white card
- Ability and willingness to travel interstate
- Full competency in Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point and relevant professional software
- Safety leadership in the field and commitment to adopting behavioural based safety programs
- Membership with professional organisations such as Soil Science Australia, is desirable
Soil Scientist:
- 3+ years of related professional experience in field investigations and soil surveying
- Demonstrated project management experience and an ability to build client relationships
- Proposal and business development experience
Senior Soil Scientist:
- 5–8+ years of relevant consulting or applied soil science experience
- Demonstrated project management and client relationship management experience
- Experience in mentoring junior staff and delivering training
- Proven proposal writing and business development capability
