About the role
As a Research Technician, you will be responsible for the preparation of samples, testing, documentation and reporting of test results, mechanical and structural testing. You will assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of the testing laboratory and equipment, and ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with safety, quality and regulatory requirements, including supporting the maintenance of laboratory NATA accreditation.
Key responsibilities
- Prove the mechanical and structural performance of products
- Systematic testing, analysis of test results and provision of comprehensive test reports
- Work in accordance with laboratory quality guidelines
- Assist in coordinating routine maintenance and calibration of equipment and general operations of mechanical laboratory
- Confirm compliance of new and existing products/systems to relevant local building codes and manufacturing standards via testing programs
- Ensure the maintenance of laboratory documentation and records in accordance with the quality management system as required by the laboratory NATA accreditation
- Work collaboratively with various stakeholders, understanding their expectations and working with them to provide suitable results
- Assist with other general testing and project support work, as required, including sampling,
analytical testing, and data collection
- Comply with any reasonable request related to health and safety including attending health and safety related training and participating in health and safety initiatives
About you
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a testing laboratory
- High attention to detail, good observational and recording skills
- Accountable and a self-starter who takes pride in their work
- Robust written and verbal communication and a team player
- The ability to collect, analyse and present data
- Familiarity with universal testing including tension/compression/bending testing
- Certificate 4 in Laboratory Techniques, Certificate 4 in Science, Diploma of Laboratory Technology or Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations (highly regarded)
- Knowledge of construction materials or building products testing and some familiarity with the National Construction Code (highly regarded)
- Knowledge of statistics and data analysis; repeatability and reproducibility studies and design of experiments (highly regarded)
- Working in testing facility with quality accreditation such as a NATA accredited facility, and familiarity with the associated quality management standards (highly regarded)
