APS6 Policy Officer and EL1 Assistant Director, Policy

We are currently recruiting for multiple policy professionals to support a major program of reform within a Federal Government workplace. These roles will suit experienced policy professionals who can navigate complex issues, develop practical recommendations and work closely with a broad range of stakeholders.

Both positions are national opportunities, with contracts running until 31 December 2026 and strong prospects for extension.

Contract Details

- APS6 Policy Officer: $60.26 + super per hour
- EL1 Assistant Director, Policy: $602.55 + super per day
- Contract until 31 December 2026, with likely extension
- National locations
- Australian citizenship is mandatory
- Candidates will be required to complete relevant employment suitability and police checks

APS6 Policy Officer

Working as part of a collaborative policy team, you will contribute to the development and implementation of reform policy, strategies and projects. You will undertake complex analysis, prepare high-quality policy documents and use data and technical information to support recommendations.
Key responsibilities include:

- Developing and implementing reform policy, strategies and projects.
- Preparing policy papers, reports, briefings, presentations and correspondence.
- Analysing data, technical information and emerging issues to develop recommendations.
- Building productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting and contributing to stakeholder consultation and engagement activities.
- Applying sound judgement to progress complex and sensitive work with limited direction.

EL1 Assistant Director, Policy

At the EL1 level,



you will lead the development and implementation of strategic policy and reform initiatives. This role includes responsibility for team leadership, stakeholder management, resource planning and providing high-quality advice within a complex and changing environment.
Key responsibilities include:

- Leading the delivery and implementation of complex reform projects.
- Leading policy analysis and communicating clear, practical recommendations.
- Managing and developing teams, including assigned contractors.
- Influencing and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Overseeing the preparation of policy papers, reports, briefings and corporate documents.
- Evaluating policy and delivery risks and supporting broader branch leadership.
- Building a positive and high-performing team culture.

About You
Depending on the level, you will bring:

- Strong policy development, implementation and analytical experience.
- Excellent written communication skills, ideally within a government environment.
- Sound judgement, problem-solving and governance capability.
- Experience preparing high-quality policy papers, reports, presentations and briefings.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Flexibility to respond to changing priorities and emerging issues.
- EL1 candidates will also require demonstrated experience leading policy reform, teams and complex stakeholder engagement.

Experience in strategic policy, legislation, strategic commissioning, Commonwealth procurement or the disability sector will be highly regarded.
