This is an exciting opportunity for a chef who takes pride in producing high quality food, enjoys working in a fast paced hotel environment and is looking to further develop their culinary skills and experience.

About the role

As a Commis Chef, you will support the day to day operation of our kitchen, working closely with the Head Chef, Sous Chefs, Chef de Parties and wider kitchen team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to develop their culinary skills while gaining hands-on experience across our hotel operations, including restaurants, banquets, conferences, events and other food and beverage outlets.

You will assist with food preparation and cooking, maintain high standards of food quality and presentation, and ensure food is prepared and handled in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.

You will have the opportunity to work across different areas of the kitchen,



learn from experienced chefs and build your knowledge and confidence in a professional hotel kitchen environment.

Core Responsibilities

As a Commis Chef, you will play an important role in the day to day operation of the kitchen, delivering high quality food while supporting smooth and efficient service across restaurants, banquets, events and other hotel outlets.

- Assist with the preparation, cooking and presentation of food to the required standard.
- Support the kitchen team with the preparation and delivery of food for restaurants, banquets, conferences, weddings, events and other hotel outlets.
- Complete preparation tasks efficiently and accurately as directed by the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef or senior kitchen team.
- Follow recipes, portion controls and established food preparation and presentation standards.
- Develop and demonstrate a sound understanding of basic cooking techniques.
- Maintain a strong focus on food quality, presentation and consistency.
- Assist with stock rotation, storage and minimising food wastage.
- Ensure all food is prepared, stored and handled in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment at all times.
- Ensure kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas are cleaned and maintained to the required standard.
- Follow instructions from senior chefs and communicate effectively with the wider kitchen team.
- Assist with setting up and preparing kitchen sections prior to service.
- Support the kitchen team during busy service periods and functions.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills and develop culinary knowledge.
- Follow all company policies, procedures and food safety requirements.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful and collaborative kitchen culture.

About You:





We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual who is keen to develop their culinary career and enjoys working as part of a busy kitchen team.

You will have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to take direction from experienced chefs. You will take pride in your work, demonstrate good attention to detail and understand the importance of maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene and presentation.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen environment is desirable but not essential.
- Relevant culinary qualifications, studies or a genuine interest in developing a career in the culinary industry.
- A genuine passion for food and cooking.
- An understanding of basic food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, food safety and hygiene requirements.
- The ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop your culinary skills.
- Good organisation and time management skills.
- Solid attention to detail and pride in your work.
- The ability to remain calm and work effectively during busy service periods.
- A willingness to assist across different areas of the kitchen as required.
- Good communication skills and a qualified approach.
- Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster, including weekends, mornings, evenings and public holidays.
- Full and unrestricted Australian working rights.
