About the role
Cystic Fibrosis Queensland is seeking an experienced, hands-on accounts mulit-tasker to support the financial operations of our charity, our national registered NDIS provider Trusted Care, and Cystic Fibrosis ACT.
This position would suit someone who has developed strong accounting knowledge across their career and is now looking for a meaningful, stable, and flexible role where their experience and professional judgement will be genuinely valued. We welcome applicants from all career stages, including those returning to the workforce or seeking a role that offers purpose, autonomy, and a sustainable working arrangement.
Working closely with the CEO, leadership team, and Boards, you will manage payroll, contractor payments, management reporting, compliance, audit preparation, and day-to-day accounting across several entities. This is a practical role for someone who enjoys being across the detail while also providing clear and trusted financial advice.
You will join a small, supportive, and purpose-led organisation whose work directly improves the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis, disability, and complex health conditions
Key responsibilities
- Run accurate end-to-end payroll for all employees across the organisation, including new starters, changes, allowances, leave, deductions, terminations and final payments
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with employment contracts, applicable industrial instruments, PAYG withholding, Single Touch Payroll, superannuation and payroll tax obligations
- Process and reconcile payments to Trusted Care independent contractors, checking approved invoices, rates, supporting documentation and required authorisations
- Manage the day-to-day accounting function for Trusted Care, including accounts payable and receivable, banking, reconciliations, journals, accruals, debtor follow-up and month-end close
- Reconcile NDIS participant, plan-management and service-delivery transactions to source systems, service agreements, invoices, remittances and bank records
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding, allocation and reconciliation across CFQ programs, Trusted Care, grants, fundraising activities, cost centres and administered entities
- Complete month-end and year-end processes, including bank and balance-sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and inter-entity balances
- Prepare clear monthly management accounts, budget-to-actual reporting, cash-flow information and financial commentary for the CEO, leadership team and Board as required
- Lead the preparation of financial records, schedules, reconciliations, samples and supporting evidence for the annual financial statement audit and ACNC reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate accounting, payroll and related system records, user permissions and finance master data
About you
- Tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce or a closely related discipline
- Current membership of CA ANZ or CPA Australia,
or an equivalent recognised professional accounting body
- Demonstrated experience independently running payroll and meeting Australian payroll, taxation and superannuation obligations
- Strong hands-on experience across the full accounting cycle, including reconciliations, month-end, statutory reporting, management reporting and audit preparation
- Experience supporting an external financial audit and working directly with auditors
- A sound understanding of Australian accounting standards, GST and not-for-profit financial reporting and compliance obligations
- High-level accuracy, professional judgement, confidentiality and the ability to meet fixed deadlines
- Robust spreadsheet and accounting-system skills, with the ability to learn and reconcile information across multiple systems
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small, purpose-led organisation
