About the role The Arts & Technologies Technician provides practical and administrative support to both The Arts and Technologies teaching staff, particularly in Food and Materials specialisations (cooking & sewing classes). This role ensures that learning spaces, food and resources are prepared, maintained and compliant with safety and hygiene standards. By assisting with lesson preparation, equipment management and stock control, the Technician supports the smooth delivery of practical classes and enhances student learning experiences.

A significant and consistent component of the role is direct support within Foods lessons and, as required, Textiles lessons, alongside periods of increased practical and technical support across The Arts, particularly for productions, performances, showcases and events.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare, set up and pack away equipment, materials and resources for practical lessons and demonstrations
- Provide technical support to teaching staff during practical classroom activities
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of specialist equipment used in drama, visual arts, music, design and technology (woodwork), photography and media
- Provide practical and technical support for Performing Arts activities during periods of increased demand, including performances, productions, rehearsals, showcases and other events
- Maintain inventories of equipment, tools, materials and consumables and monitor stock levels
- Manage food, fabric and resource inventory, including ordering and shopping
- Ensure specialist learning environments, including art rooms, technology workshops, studios and storage areas, are maintained in a protected, clean and functional condition




- Prepare classrooms and resources for Foods and Textiles practical lessons
- Ensure safe storage, handling and disposal of materials, chemicals, paints and other substances in accordance with relevant legislation and safety data sheets (SDS)
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety and allergen management

About you

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Commitment to student wellbeing, child safety and pastoral care
- Strong organisational and time management capability with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing demands
- Ability to prepare, organise and maintain classrooms for practical learning
- Confidence in handling food preparation, portioning and allergen protocols
- Relevant qualifications or demonstrated experience in Home Economics support
- Experience in a school-based or food-preparation role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital systems
- Ability to safely operate and maintain a range of arts and technology equipment
- Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety principles and safe work practices
