Assistant Materials Officer

Pay Rate: $72.16 per hour + super

Duration: 12-month assignment

Travel: Work-related travel, accommodation, meals and incidentals covered by TMR

APG Workforce is currently seeking an Assistant Materials Officer to join the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) team based in Warwick, QLD for a 12-month assignment.

This is a hands-on role providing support to materials practitioners across construction materials testing, sampling, field investigations and instrumentation. The position involves a combination of laboratory and field-based work, including regular regional travel.

About the Role

As an Assistant Materials Officer, you will assist materials practitioners with a range of testing and investigation activities associated with construction and road infrastructure materials.

Key responsibilities include:

- Undertake basic materials classification and compliance testing
- Assist materials testing practitioners with general and specialist testing
- Assist with sampling, equipment checking and calibration
- Support field investigations and instrumentation activities
- Operate equipment, apparatus and reagents in accordance with documented procedures
- Ensure PPE and other required safety equipment is used correctly
- Perform calculations using both manual and software-based tools
- Maintain compliance with departmental and regional policies, WH&S; legislation and governance requirements
- Undertake work across both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year
- Complete regular physical tasks involving testing equipment, shovelling and manual handling
- Walk across uneven or adverse terrain during field activities
- Lift and handle samples and equipment weighing up to 25kg




- Travel to various locations as required, including isolated areas

About You To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:
- Current Class C Driver Licence – mandatory
- Sound numeracy skills and confidence completing calculations
- Ability to use computer/software-based tools
- Ability to follow documented testing and safety procedures
- Robust attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to safely lift and handle samples and equipment weighing up to 25kg
- Willingness to work across laboratory and outdoor field environments
- Ability to undertake physically demanding work including lifting, bending, shovelling, standing and walking
- Willingness to travel and work in isolated locations when required
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety

Travel & Field Work The position may require travel to various locations to undertake sampling, testing and field investigations. At times, you may be working in isolated locations with limited or no mobile phone coverage for periods of up to five days. Appropriate levels of contact will be maintained between employees and the home base.

TMR will cover required work-related travel costs, including accommodation, meals and incidentals.

Physical Requirements A significant component of this position involves regular physical activity, including manual handling, lifting samples up to 25kg, bending, shovelling and extended periods of standing and walking across varying terrain.
