Employment Arrangement: Up to 40 hours per fortnight. Shifts will include Friday & Saturday night, and every second Thursday night.

Salary Range:
- Base Salary: From $48.20 per hour (Grade 10, Step 1)
- Plus: 12% superannuation
- Allowance: Weekend Shift Penalty & Early Start allowances will also apply.
The successful candidate will have access to step increases for the grade based on competency assessment and tenure within this position.

The Prospect
Strathfield Council is seeking a motivated Regulatory Officer – Night Ranger to join our team.
This role is a newly created permanent part-time position. The rostered hours are Friday and Saturday nights from 8:30pm to 5:00am, plus every second Thursday night from 8:30pm to 5:00am. Applications from individuals interested in working these hours on a rotating roster will be considered, and multiple appointments may be made to provide coverage across the required shifts.
In this role, you will help maintain a safe, compliant and welcoming community through proactive patrols, regulatory investigations and responsive enforcement. You will work independently to resolve issues, manage challenging situations and build positive relationships with residents, businesses and stakeholders.

What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting proactive night patrols and responding to incidents and complaints
- Investigating breaches, including illegal dumping, unattended property, animal control and public space and traffic matters
- Issuing warnings, notices and infringements in accordance with legislation and Council policies
- Gathering evidence and preparing reports, statements and briefs
- Liaising with residents, Council teams, NSW Police and other agencies
- Using effective communication and de-escalation skills to achieve positive compliance outcomes.
- Relevant building tertiary qualifications such as Certificate III/IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or Diploma of Local Government (Regulatory Services)
- Relevant work experience in a similar or the same position
- Demonstrated understanding and comprehensive knowledge of the relevant regulations and legislations such as but not limited to the Local Government Act (2020), Protection of the Environment Operations Act (1997), Impounding Act (1993), Companion Animals Act (1998), section 632 Local Government Act (2020), and POEO Act (1997).
- Completed SDRO/SEINS training
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to engage with, influence and exercise judgement while building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability in research, problem-solving and lateral interpretation skills and report-writing skills
- Be adaptable, open, and willing to embrace change and support systems for positive change
- Ability to anticipate problems and identify appropriate preventative and contingent actions
- Ability to work effectively in agile environments by managing multiple tasks and short timeframes
- Display people-centric, interpersonal skills in negotiation and advocacy
- Ability to establish, nurture and maintain effective and collaborative partnerships with multiple stakeholders and influence effectively to drive strategic objectives
- Consultation skills with a strong customer service focus
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and work with minimum supervision
- Ability to work a rotating shift roster, including weekends and public holidays
- Must hold a current Driver’s Licence.
