Northern Health are excited to recruit a suitably motivated and qualified Carer Peer Support Worker to Craigieburn Community Mental Health, Craigieburn Community Hospital, Northern Health.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our six main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.
About the Role
This role requires a passionate and empathic Carer Lived Experience Worker to provide day-to-day support to Carers and families of consumers with mental health concerns.
The position is responsible for provision of emotional support, advocacy, information about navigating the mental health system, and linkage to relevant community services for carers and families.
Thesuccessful applicant will use their lived experience of caring for someone with mental health challengesto promote the voice of our families and carers,
ensuring that they are included in treatment planning for our consumers andthey receive support for their own wellbeing.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Lived experience of supporting someone with mental health concerns
- Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Knowledge of navigating the mental health care and other support systems
- Demonstrated ability to listen, support and advocate
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
