About us

Thrive ELC Greystanes is a small, 40-place early learning centre in Greystanes. We take our recruitment seriously because every person we employ becomes part of our children's everyday lives.

About the role

Your day will begin in our kitchen, preparing fresh morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for our children. Once your cooking, preparation and kitchen responsibilities are completed, you will transition into the rooms and work alongside our educators, giving you the prospect to build genuine relationships with our children rather than being someone they only see in the kitchen. We want our cook to be part of our centre community — someone who knows our children, understands their individual needs and takes pride in seeing them enjoy the food they have prepared.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare nutritious, appealing morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea each day
- Develop and review menus that are nutritious, varied and enjoyable for children
- Safely cater for allergies, intolerances, medical requirements and religious/cultural dietary needs
- Maintain high standards of food preparation, storage, temperature control, hygiene and food safety
- Independently manage the day-to-day operation, organisation and cleanliness of the kitchen
- Order groceries and kitchen supplies, monitor stock, rotate food appropriately and minimise waste
- Complete required food-safety, temperature, cleaning and kitchen documentation accurately

- Participate in cooking and healthy-eating experiences with the children
- Work within the rooms alongside our educators to support children's learning, routines, supervision and wellbeing

About you

- A current NSW Working With Children Check, or ability to obtain one before commencing
- Appropriate food handling/food safety knowledge and training
- Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care OR willingness to commence and work towards the qualification
- A genuine commitment to child safety and wellbeing or Child Protection Certificate if a qualified Cert III
- The ability to meet the requirements associated with working within an early childhood education and care service

- Genuinely enjoys being around children
- Takes pride in preparing fresh, tasty food
- Extremely conscious of allergies and dietary requirements
- Organised and able to independently manage a kitchen

- Maintains excellent cleanliness and hygiene standards

Benefits

- Full time Monday–Friday employment
- 8:00am–4:00pm hours daily
- No nights or weekends
- Consistent working hours
- Small, supportive team
- Hands on and approachable management
- The opportunity to get to know our children and families personally
- Input into menus and children's food experiences
- Variety between cooking and working directly with children
- The opportunity to commence or continue your Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
