About the Role
The Energy Market Analyst is responsible for leading rigorous analysis to provide strategic insights to various teams across Shell Energy Trading Australia. This includes modelling of supply/demand dynamics, deal pricing, portfolio optimisation , and competitor analysis across all markets and asset classes of interest.
They will also adopt a continuous improvement mindset on analysis and modelling approach, including active involvement in assurance activities.
Accountabilities
- Lead long-term power and gas market studies (internal and with external consultants) and suggests improvement in modelling techniques.
- Lead the analysis on power and gas market data to synthesise insights and develop model and tools to aid decision making across the business, including the creation of data products that can be visualized and shared broadly across the organisation including senior stakeholders.
- Critically access and provide inputs to work done by various teams including broader assurance on modelling approaches to ensure quality decision making around deal pricing and investment decisions.
- Work closely and collaboratively in the team including supporting more senior members as well as mentoring more junior members.
- Focal point for analytics community of practice that brings together analysts sitting in various power and gas teams .
- Coordinate and liaise with various teams within Trading & Supply including Spot Trading, Forward Trading & Origination, Gas Origination; and more broadly including Economics,
Strategy & Portfolio Development, and Upstream Gas
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Industry Background: Experience in the Energy and Gas Wholesale sector is required
- Extensive experience in modelling and analysis of the Australian National Electricity Market ( NEM ) and east coast gas markets for various time horizons (spot trading, forward trading, asset development) and high familiarity with Australia n Energy Market Operator ( AEMO ) market data.
- Prior experience with revenue modelling of various assets, with thorough considerations of energy economics, commercial consideration, and physical attributes, in supporting a business development or trading business.
- Superior analysis skills including high proficiency and experience in programming languages (Python & SQL preferred) and mathematical modelling.
- Experience in Databricks and PowerBI would be advantageous
- Superior visualization, communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- A high capacity to deal with complex, multi- dimensional and ambiguous issues through a learner mindset.
- Self-starting, independent and proactive with a desire and comfort to challenge the status quo and retain independence of thought.
