Position Title: Communications Adviser
Employment Type: Part-time (18 hours per week)
Deborah Morris, MLA is looking for a motivated and organised Communications Adviser.
Position Overview A Communications Adviser plays a key role in developing, and monitoring digital communication content to keep constituents informed and engaged with the Member’s work in the electorate and the Assembly.
This role is responsible for the management of social media channels, designing and distributing digital newsletters, and maintaining the official website. It suits an enthusiastic media, communications, or public relations skilled with strong digital skills, a keen eye for detail, and a solid understanding of the political landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, create, and schedule daily engaging content (text, graphics, short-form video) across social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
- Monitor social media channels for constituent comments, inquiries, and local feedback, escalating issues to policy and electorate staff when appropriate.
- Draft, layout, and distribute regular digital newsletters to constituents using email marketing platforms.
- Maintain email subscriber lists in accordance with privacy guidelines and manage audience growth strategies.
- Maintain and update the official website, ensuring media releases, speeches, community notices, and parliamentary updates are published promptly.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Qualifications/Experience: Practical experience in digital content creation.
2. Digital Skillset:
Proven experience managing social media accounts professionally, using scheduling tools, and creating engaging content for diverse audiences.
3. Design & Tech Skills: Proficiency with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, video editing programs) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Mailchimp).
4. Writing & Editing: Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately under tight deadlines.
5. Political & Civic Awareness: Sound understanding of Australian politics, and key issues affecting local communities.
6. Time Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Position available: Adviser Level 1, part-time, based at the ACT Legislative Assembly.
On top of a base salary of $82,377 (pro rata) plus super, this role includes an additional 7 per cent LAMS Allowance to cover a small amount of overtime.
An initial contract will be offered for 12 months with possibility of extension until the end of the Assembly term.
