Foodbank NSW & ACT is seeking a values-driven Community Engagement Coordinator to build trusted relationships and support local communities across the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers through impactful food relief initiatives.

The Impact of the Role

As the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will play a key role in strengthening Foodbank’s connections with local communities and ensuring equitable access to food relief and support programs across the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers.

Based in the Hunter region and working remotely, you will spend significant time out in the community, building relationships and developing a strong understanding of the different needs, challenges and opportunities across the region.

Working closely with schools, charities, councils and community organisations, you’ll help deliver programs that not only provide nourishment but also build local capacity and resilience. You’ll represent Foodbank at events, support schools through the Breakfast 4 Health Program, and collaborate with partners to ensure culturally responsive food relief during both everyday operations and times of crisis.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement community engagement plans with schools, charities, councils, First Nations and multicultural communities, local MPs and other regional stakeholders.




- Strengthen relationships with community partners across the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, assessing needs, gathering feedback and ensuring compliance with Foodbank requirements.
- Support the delivery and coordination of the Breakfast 4 Health Program, ensuring consistent access to nutritious food for students.
- Recruit and onboard recent community partners and schools to expand Foodbank’s reach across the region.
- Plan and deliver community pop-up outreach sessions throughout the year, providing timely and culturally appropriate food relief to communities experiencing food insecurity.
- Represent Foodbank at community events, meetings and forums to increase visibility and strengthen local relationships.
- Collaborate internally with Fundraising, Support Services and Supply Chain teams to align engagement activities with organisational goals.
- Assist in coordinating emergency food relief responses during disasters and other periods of increased community need.
- Track and report on engagement activities, outcomes and community feedback, ensuring engagement is recorded accurately in Foodbank’s CRM.

About You You are a positive, community-minded professional with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine commitment to social impact. You enjoy being out in the community, building trusted relationships and working across a broad geographic area. You thrive working independently while remaining closely connected to a wider team.

You will bring

- Relevant qualifications in community development or equivalent experience in community engagement or outreach.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government, schools and community groups.
- Demonstrated interest in addressing food insecurity, disadvantage or related social issues.
- Strong cultural awareness and experience engaging respectfully with First Nations and culturally diverse communities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence in public and community settings.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills,



with the ability to work independently across a regional portfolio while collaborating effectively with the broader Foodbank team.
- Experience planning and facilitating community meetings, forums or engagement activities.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and CRM/data management systems.
- You will reside in the Hunter region and be comfortable working from home, with the flexibility to travel regularly across the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, as well as to Sydney when required.
- A current NSW Driver’s Licence, along with a willingness to obtain a NSW Working With Children Check, National Police Check and undergo medical clearance as part of pre-employment screening.
