Experienced Disability Support Workers – Complex & High-Intensity Care

Amity Abilities Care Pty Ltd is seeking experienced and compassionate Disability Support Workers to join our team and provide high-quality in-home support to a participant with complex physical, neurological, respiratory and psychosocial support needs.

This is an opportunity for skilled support workers who are confident working with complex care requirements and understand the importance of consistency, teamwork, professional boundaries, dignity and person-centred support.

About the Role

You will provide individualised in-home support to a participant who is wheelchair dependent and requires significant assistance with daily living, personal care, mobility and complex health-related supports.

The successful applicants will be required to work collaboratively with the participant, family, support coordinator and broader healthcare team while following established clinical and support plans.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities may include

- Providing high-quality personal care and assistance with activities of daily living
- Supporting a person with complex neurological and physical disabilities
- Safe manual handling, transfers and hoist use
- Wheelchair and mobility support
- Catheter care, including suprapubic catheter support and intermittent catheterisation, where appropriately trained and authorised
- Bowel care and continence support
- Pressure area and skin integrity monitoring and support
- Supporting a participant with chronic pain and reduced mobility
- Respiratory support and monitoring in accordance with established care plans
- Overnight/awake-shift monitoring where required
- Recognising changes in presentation and escalating concerns appropriately
- Supporting emotional regulation and responding calmly to verbal frustration or distress
- Maintaining accurate documentation and progress notes
- Using the participant's established CRM/documentation system
- Following existing clinical, health, behavioural and support plans




- Working collaboratively with family members, health professionals, support coordinators and other support workers
- Maintaining a consistent and respectful approach to support

About You We are looking for applicants who have:

- Previous experience supporting people with complex disability and high support needs
- Experience with neurological conditions, acquired brain injury or spinal cord injury is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience with hoisting and complex manual handling
- Experience with catheter care and bowel care is highly desirable
- Experience supporting people with respiratory conditions is highly desirable
- Experience working with wheelchair-dependent and non-weight-bearing participants
- Strong understanding of person-centred practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to remain calm, patient and professional during periods of frustration or verbal escalation
- A strong understanding of teamwork, consistency and professional boundaries
- The ability to follow established care plans and clinical instructions
- Good written communication and documentation skills
- A willingness to complete participant-specific training and competency assessments
- Reliable availability and commitment to consistent support

Qualifications & Requirements Applicants should have, or be willing to obtain where applicable:

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, Nursing or a related field
- Relevant experience in complex disability support
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children Check, where applicable
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Manual handling/hoist competency




- Medication competency, where required
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Relevant infection control training
- Evidence of required vaccinations/immunisations where relevant to the role
- Australian working rights

Additional participant-specific training and competency assessment will be required before undertaking specialised supports.
