The City of Kalamunda is seeking an experienced Coordinator Design to provide technical leadership and coordinate the delivery of civil infrastructure design and survey services within our Design and Construction team

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Design & Construction, you will assist in the effective and efficient coordination and management of the Project Design Team to deliver strategic outcomes and organisational goals.

The role is responsible for coordinating project design, estimating and surveying activities, together with the investigation, review and response to stormwater and traffic matters. You will provide technical leadership throughout the design process and help ensure civil infrastructure designs are practical, compliant, fit for purpose and aligned with the City’s Capital Works Program.

In this role, you will:

- Coordinate the preparation, review and approval of concept, preliminary and detailed designs for civil infrastructure projects.
- Review the outputs of the design and survey team through an experienced civil engineering lens to ensure quality, compliance and best outcomes.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements, including Austroads, DWER and Main Roads WA requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external survey resources to support timely and accurate project delivery.
- Apply project management principles to plan, coordinate and deliver design and survey services aligned with the City’s Capital Works Program.
- Coordinate approvals required for project delivery, including permits, utility relocations and modifications, and Main Roads WA requirements.
- Provide technical support during procurement and construction phases, including responding to design queries and coordinating design-related changes.
- Manage and coordinate external consultants undertaking design,



survey and technical investigations.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to staff and support their ongoing training and development.
- Manage service delivery area budgets and contribute to the development of budgets and the City’s Long Term Financial Plans.

About You You are an experienced civil engineering professional with solid technical judgement and the ability to lead and coordinate people, projects and competing priorities.

You bring a practical understanding of civil infrastructure design and constructability and can confidently review technical outputs to ensure designs meet relevant standards, specifications and project requirements.

You are an effective communicator who can build productive relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants and regulatory authorities. You will also bring sound analytical and problem-solving skills, good judgement and a commitment to continuous improvement in infrastructure design and delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in civil engineering, construction or a recognised specialised equivalent.
- Construction Safety Awareness Card (White Card).
- Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory Police Clearance Certificate.

Selection Criteria

1. Extensive experience in a similar role within local government or a similar environment.
2. Proven ability to coordinate teams and manage time, resources and competing priorities to deliver high-quality outcomes within deadlines.
3. Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, while managing sensitive or confidential matters appropriately.
5. Highly developed written communication skills,



including experience in preparing reports, proposals, technical documents and policies.
6. Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement and initiative.
7. Demonstrated understanding of risk management and continuous improvement in infrastructure design and delivery.
8. Experience engaging with external regulatory authorities and obtaining approvals for civil works.
9. Capability in assessing constructability and lifecycle asset performance within civil design.
10. Proficient in industry-standard software including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD and civil design tools.

Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position working 75 hours per fortnight. Flexible work options are available, including a 9-day fortnight or flexitime.

About the Benefits The salary range for this position is $111,376 - $129,864 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) plus superannuation. Other inclusions are annual increments, annual salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme and 22 days annual leave which attracts 17.5% loading. We also offer flexible work arrangements or the option for a rostered day off fortnightly or monthly.
