The role of Counsellor is to provide professional counselling and therapeutic support to individuals experiencing distress, using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches to promote wellbeing and recovery.

As a Counsellor, your responsibilities will include:

- Deliver short-term counselling interventions tailored to client needs
- Conduct assessments and develop brief care plans
- Provide psychoeducation and emotional support
- Facilitate referrals to specialist services where required
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records
- Participate in community engagement and outreach services
- Provide information, support, referral and assessments to clients in relation to their presenting needs
- Liaise with other organisations to ensure that the client’s needs are met
- Refer clients to other agencies if and when required.
- Travel to support counselling programs across the region when required.
- Maintain client records, formulate reports, implement evaluation procedures and collect relevant data

About You To be successful in this role you will have:

- Hold an appropriate Degree in Social Work (preferred) or alternatively hold a Diploma level qualification in Human Services relevant to providing Counselling services.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain membership with relevant professional body (e.g. Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Counselling Association) where applicable.
- Demonstrated experience in providing counselling and therapeutic interventions.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally protected practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and be sensitive to the differing needs of people from various cultural groups.
- High level of communication and negotiation skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Effective organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly confidential manner.




- High level of ability in the use of Microsoft Office and Information Technology.

Requirements of the role:
- Hold (or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check *
- Hold (or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (Police Check) *
- Hold a current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)
