Commonwealth Agency Seeking EL1 Property Services for a Short Term Labour Hire Contract.

This Commonwealth agency plays an important role in supporting the work of the Australian Government. They are seeking an experienced EL1 Assistant Director, Property & Business Services to join their Finance Team and lead a range of workplace operations, property, facilities, asset management and business services functions.
Your new role
This is a short-term contract opportunity for around 2 months to fill a gap within the Property team of the department. You will oversee the delivery of property, facilities, accommodation, supplier management and business support services. This will include coordinating maintenance, office changes, contractor engagement, building services, workplace improvements, contract and procurement activities, reporting, governance documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities will include
- Supporting the CFO to deliver high-quality, responsive and compliant property and business services functions.
- Leading the day-to-day operations of the Property and Facilities Team, including planning work, setting priorities, allocating tasks and supporting staff capability.
- Managing property, facilities and accommodation services, including maintenance, office changes, fit-outs, contractor coordination and workplace improvement activities
- Managing property and business services contracts, procurement activities, accounts and supplier relationships in line with Commonwealth requirements.
- Preparing property-related reporting, briefing material, records and governance documentation to a high standard.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role,
you will bring demonstrated experience across property, facilities, workplace services or asset management, with a strong understanding of operational service delivery in a public sector or similarly complex environment.
You will also have
- Strong contract, procurement and supplier management experience, including monitoring service delivery and achieving value-for-money outcomes.
- Sound judgement and the ability to manage governance, risk, compliance, WHS requirements, records, procedures and assurance documentation.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear advice, reports and procedures.
- The ability to build effective relationships with staff, senior leaders, landlords, contractors and external service providers.
- The ability to operate at the Executive Level 1 level, contribute to team performance and demonstrate strong personal qualities including honesty, integrity and resilience.
- Ability to work in an office (Canberra) 5 days per week
- You must be an Australian Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain Baseline Clearance
What you'll get in return
- Competitive Hourly Rate $80 - $110 p/h + super
- Short-term contract through to mid-December 2026, possible extension
