PGC Legal is seeking an employment lawyer with 3–5 years' post-admission experience to join the team at Associate level.
The role offers a mix of employment advisory work, workplace disputes and regulatory matters, particularly where employment issues overlap with the qualified obligations, registration and disciplinary processes affecting health practitioners and other professionals.
You will take responsibility for matters and client relationships, with autonomy appropriate to your experience and support from experienced senior practitioners.
Key responsibilities
- Advise on employment contracts, workplace policies, awards, enterprise agreements and employment entitlements.
- Provide practical advice on performance management, disciplinary processes, termination, redundancy and workplace investigations.
- Act in employment disputes, including unfair dismissal, general protections, discrimination, bullying and underpayment matters.
- Assist health practitioners and other professionals with regulatory complaints, investigations, disciplinary proceedings and registration issues.
- Advise on the interaction between workplace processes and professional obligations, including reporting requirements, restrictions on practice and the employment implications of regulatory action.
- Draft advice, employment agreements, correspondence, responses to regulators, applications, submissions and settlement documents.
- Represent clients in negotiations, conciliations and mediations, and appear or assist with appearances before the Fair Work Commission, courts, tribunals and professional disciplinary bodies.
- Work with colleagues across the firm where employment and regulatory issues arise in commercial advice,
transactions and disputes.
- Support junior lawyers, build client and referrer relationships, and contribute to the development of the practice.
About you
- 3–5 years' post-admission experience in employment law.
- Strong drafting and analytical skills.
- Ability to translate legal issues into clear, practical advice.
- Comfortable taking ownership of matters, managing competing priorities and recognising when to seek input.
- Collaborative practitioner who enjoys sharing knowledge and is willing to learn.
- Experience across both advisory and contentious work valued, but applications from lawyers with greater depth in one area who are keen to develop in the other are welcome.
- Previous experience acting for health practitioners or other professionals in regulatory matters welcome but not essential.
Personalised career development: regular check‑ins, support to broaden your expertise and opportunities to take on greater responsibility as you develop.
Realistic budgetary expectations, a generous bonus scheme and retention incentives, including a long service leave bonus paid after four years.
Dedicated business development, administrative and finance support, allowing you to focus on legal work and client relationships.
Access to Employee Assistance Program and annual flu vaccinations.
Personalised parental leave benefits and a diverse, inclusive and collaborative culture.
