The Medical Education Unit at Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced Senior Medical Officer - Clinical Lead (Workplace Based Assessment Program).

This is temporary part-time from 27/11/2026 - 15/06/2027 (16 hr/pf), with a possibility of an additional 12 months extension.

About the opportunity

The Senior Medical Officer - Clinical Lead for the Workforce Based Assessment Program (WBA Program) is responsible for implementation and maintenance of the WBA Program, including but not limited to accreditation of the program, training WBA assessors, Chairing and/or participating in Committee meetings, advocacy for WBA applicants, supporting performance assessment, performance management, education and career guidance. This role also provides additional focussed support to work in partnership with health providers in the Townsville region to help support and retain medical trainees in the area.

About the unit

The Medical Education Unit (MEU) is establishing an accredited Australian Medical Council (AMC) Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program for international medical graduates (IMGs) employed by the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). The initial cohort of seven IMGs will commence mid-2025. The program duration is 12 months, with two cohort intakes per year.

- Base salary range: $106.39–$134.90 p.h. (L18-L27)
- Attraction & Retention up to $111,029 (pro rata) pa.
- Regional & Rural Attraction Allowance up to $13,334 (pro rata) pa.
- Vehicle allowance up to $25,500 (pro rata) p.a.
- Professional Development Leave + Allowance $21,500 (pro rata) pa.
- Locality allowance + Leave Loading 17.5% pa. + more perks

Requirements

- The successful applicant must be registered as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Postgraduate qualifications in medical education will be highly regarded.
- All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP Committee. All appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the CSCF for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken.
