About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and passionate Event Chef to join the kitchen team at Sergeants Mess. This is an opportunity for a chef who takes pride in producing high-quality food and enjoys working in a fast-paced events environment where consistency, presentation and attention to detail are critical.
Working closely with the Head Chef and wider kitchen team, you will play an important role in delivering the food experience expected by our guests and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head Chef, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and cooking food to the required GPG and venue standards.
- Ensuring all dishes are consistently high quality, well presented and delivered within required service timeframes.
- Supporting the preparation and execution of weddings, corporate functions, gala events and private celebrations.
- Contributing ideas for seasonal menu changes, specials and product development.
- Assisting with ordering and maintaining appropriate levels of food supplies.
- Supporting and guiding junior chefs and kitchen team members in preparation and cooking techniques.
- Maintaining strong portion control and actively contributing to waste minimisation and cost control.
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and safe work practices at all times.
- Ensuring appropriate procedures are followed when preparing food for guests with allergies and dietary requirements.
- Conducting quality and freshness checks on food deliveries and stored products.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and professional kitchen environment.
- Working closely with the Front of House team to ensure smooth and timely service.
- Taking ownership of the quality and consistency of your work and contributing positively to the overall performance of the kitchen team.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for someone who demonstrates:
- Relevant commercial cookery qualifications and experience.
- A genuine passion for food, hospitality and delivering a quality guest experience.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation,
cooking techniques and presentation.
- High standards of cleanliness, food safety and kitchen organisation.
- The ability to remain calm and effective in a high-volume events environment.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
- A professional and enthusiastic approach.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both Kitchen and Front of House teams.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required by the events calendar.
- A commitment to workplace health and safety.
