Workshop Supervisor – Steel Fabrication

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join our team in a hands-on leadership position. This role is ideal for a skilled steel fabricator who has the experience and confidence to supervise a workshop team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day fabrication operations. You will be responsible for coordinating workshop activities, allocating workloads, maintaining productivity and quality, and ensuring all jobs are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with drawings, specifications and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate and allocate daily jobs and workloads across the workshop
- Supervise, support and mentor workshop staff to achieve production targets
- Monitor job progress, schedules, deadlines and quality requirements
- Coordinate workflow across fabrication, fitting, assembly and related workshop activities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, specifications and fabrication requirements
- Assess jobs and determine required materials, labour, equipment and estimated completion times
- Identify and resolve fabrication, production and workflow issues
- Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety, quality and productivity
- Communicate with management regarding job progress, priorities, resourcing and potential delays
- Ensure workshop activities are organised and completed in a timely and efficient manner
- Provide practical support to the team and lead by example on the workshop floor

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in steel fabrication and manufacturing
- Previous experience as a Workshop Supervisor, Leading Hand, Foreperson, Senior Fabricator or similar
- Strong hands-on fabrication and welding skills
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications




- A solid understanding of fabrication processes, production planning and quality control
- The ability to assess material, labour, equipment and time requirements accurately
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate and support a workshop team
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A positive, reliable and proactive approach to work
- A solid sense of ownership and accountability for workshop operations
