Are you an experienced Fiberglass Composite Technician with experience on application, repair, and finishing of fibreglass and polymer-based coatings for swimming pools and associated structures?
Our client is seeking a skilled Fiberglass Composite Technician to join its specialist team who combine technical trade skills in composites, resin systems, and spray application techniques with practical on-site execution, ensuring high-quality, durable, and compliant finishes across new builds
Successful candidates will be based in our client’s factory in Rutherford, NSW.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical drawings, production specifications, and mould documentation to determine fabrication requirements
- Prepare moulds and surfaces for gel coating, composite lay-up, and lamination processes
- Carry out surface preparation, polishing, and defect rectification of pool shells and composite parts
- Apply gel coats, resins, fibreglass, and polyurethane materials using specialised spray equipment and hand lay-up techniques
- Trim, grind, sand, polish, and finish composite products to specified dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards
- Manufacture ancillary fibreglass and composite components associated with swimming pool production
- Operate and maintain chopper guns, spray systems, rollers, grinders, and other composite fabrication tools and machinery
- Perform fibreglass and composite lay-up, lamination, reinforcement, and fabrication of swimming pool shells and associated components
- Conduct polyurethane and composite material application where required
- Undertake mould maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure ongoing production efficiency
- Follow daily and weekly production schedules set by the Production Supervisor
- Assist in process optimisation and continuous improvement of composite manufacturing methods and production workflows
- Perform routine maintenance of tools, equipment, and work areas to support safe and efficient operations
- Comply with workplace health and safety legislation, PPE requirements, and hazard control procedures within a composite manufacturing facility
- Maintain a clean and safe manufacturing setting in accordance with company policies
- Work independently and collaboratively within a production team environment Assist the development of new technologies and processes
Skills and Experience
- Proven minimum 3 years’ experience in fiberglass or composites
- Strong measurement, sanding, and spraying skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight tolerances.
- Ability to work with various setting compounds (hand mix and premix).
- High standard of trimming, drilling and grinding techniques
- Ability to produce components without additional need for rectification.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Qualifications
- MEM31119 Certificate III in Engineering - Composites Trade (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience in swimming pool, marine, or composite product manufacturing (highly desirable)
- Experience with tools (e.g. guns, lamps, brushes and rollers, dremel or rotary tools etc).
- First Aid - desirable
- Inspect finished products, identify defects, and carry out repairs and rectification to meet manufacturing and quality requirement
- Monitor material usage and ensure correct handling of resins, catalysts, and composite materials in accordance with technical and safety requirements
- Follow structured production schedules and technical work instructions within a manufacturing environment
