Nectar is a Brisbane-based conference and event management business delivering conferences, events and awards programs for clients across Australia. We're looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified bookkeeper / finance administrator to join our team and take ownership of our day-to-day finance function.
This role will replace the current bookkeeping function, so robust bookkeeping capability is essential. You'll be responsible for keeping Nectar's business accounts accurate and up to date, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations and routine financial administration.
This role differs from a traditional bookkeeping position through the opportunity to work closely with the project team on the financial management of client events.
Event
Managers are responsible for delivering their projects within approved budgets.
Your role will be to ensure the financial information they are working from is accurate, reconciled and reliable — preparing monthly project financial reports, reconciling event bank accounts and payment gateways, providing GST and bookkeeping guidance, and helping investigate discrepancies.
Key responsibilities
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Completing bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintaining accurate financial records in Xero
- Preparing supplier payments and raising client invoices
- Managing supplier statements and resolving discrepancies
- Processing contractor payments
- Running fortnightly payroll and maintaining payroll, leave and superannuation records
- Supporting BAS preparation and liaising with external accountant
- Assisting with financial reporting, forecasting and cash-flow information
- Completing monthly financial reconciliations for active client projects
About you
- A Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma of Accounting, accounting qualification or equivalent recognised bookkeeping qualification and professional experience
- Strong practical bookkeeping experience, ideally managing the finance function of a small or medium-sized business
- Strong working knowledge of Xero
- Sound knowledge of GST, BAS, payroll and superannuation
- Experience preparing bank reconciliations, financial reconciliations and reports
- Confidence investigating and resolving financial discrepancies
- Strong Excel and/or Google Sheets skills
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility for seeing things through
- Confidence working across multiple clients, projects, bank accounts and payment systems
