About the role

As a Field Operations Officer, you’ll play a critical role in supporting the delivery of applied research and plant breeding programs within our Broadacre team. Based at Newton, this is a hands-on, field-based role focused on trial establishment, in-crop maintenance and harvest activities. In many ways, we farm on a miniature scale. Our trials involve the same seasonal activities as broadacre farming; site preparation, sowing, spraying, crop maintenance and harvest, but across small research plots where accuracy, attention to detail and an understanding of trial requirements are essential.

You’ll work closely with the Hub Lead and wider team to carry out field operations safely and efficiently, operate and maintain machinery, support trial quality and hygiene, and contribute to well-presented, professionally run trial sites that meet AgXtra’s quality standards.

About you

You’re practical, reliable and enjoy working outdoors in a field-based environment.



You have some broadacre farming or agricultural research experience and an understanding of how broadacre trials are established, maintained and harvested. You have a strong machinery aptitude, take pride in the quality of your work and pay close attention to detail. Experience with crop maintenance, spraying or other practical broadacre operations would be highly regarded.

You’re a team player who communicates clearly, follows procedures and takes safety seriously. You’re versatile during peak periods, hold a valid driver’s licence, and are willing to travel and work extended hours during sowing and harvest as required. A current HR truck licence is desirable, or a willingness to undertake training to obtain one is essential.
