The Role

We are seeking a skilled, hands-on mechanical technician with a solid background in rebuilding and refurbishing mechanical equipment. This role involves travel across Australia and occasional international assignments to install, commission, service, and overhaul bespoke automation and robotic systems at client sites. You'll be working on advanced systems such as mechanical sample preparation units and automated material handling equipment in mining and industrial sectors — including full teardown, rebuild, and refurbishment of mechanical assemblies and components.

This position suits someone who enjoys stripping machines down, working out what's worn or failed, and rebuilding them to spec — and who's comfortable doing that independently in remote and industrial settings. It's not routine plant maintenance; much of our equipment is one-off or built in small numbers, so no two jobs look the same.

Travel is structured around planned shutdown campaigns and scheduled service visits, typically 1-7 days at a time, with the balance of your time in our Osborne Park workshop.

Key Responsibilities

- Rebuild and refurbish mechanical equipment and components, including full strip-downs, inspection, and reassembly to specification.
- Perform mechanical installation, diagnostics, and maintenance at client sites.
- Diagnose faults across mechanical systems, with support from our engineering team on electrical and control issues.
- Commission equipment and provide handover training to site personnel.
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and system upgrades.




- Complete service documentation, risk assessments, and technical reports.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal engineering teams.
- Uphold a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site procedures.

What You'll Bring

Essential:

- Full Australian working rights.
- Current C-class driver's license and own transport.
- Field service experience in mining or industrial sectors.
- Minimum of 5+ years of field service experience in mining or industrial sectors.
- Trade qualification or equivalent experience in mechanical disciplines.
- Proven experience stripping down, rebuilding, and refurbishing mechanical equipment or components.
- Experience with project and shutdown work under time pressure.
- Strong fault-finding and hands-on servicing skills.
- Ability to write clear service reports and safety documentation (Take 5's / JHA's).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work autonomously in challenging environments.
- Availability to travel 25–50% of the time for field service assignments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain site access requirements, and to pass a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening.

Desirable:

- Experience with precision fits and tolerances, bearings, seals, and rotating equipment.
- Experience with automated equipment and systems, particularly in a laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with PLC systems, industrial automation, or robotic controls.
- Basic IT skills — ERP systems, SharePoint, MS Office.
