Finance Manager

Territory Child Care Group | Darwin, NT Full-time

Territory Child Care Group (TCCG) is seeking an experienced and capable Finance Manager to lead the financial management of our diverse Northern Territory not-for-profit organisation.

TCCG delivers services across early childhood education and care, outside school hours care, family day care and out-of-home care. This creates an interesting and varied finance environment, with different service models, funding arrangements and operational requirements.

Reporting directly to the Director, the Finance Manager is a key member of our management team and works closely with service leaders, our Board, external accountant and auditors.

This position would suit someone who is technically strong, practical and approachable, and who enjoys having oversight of the whole finance function rather than working within a narrow area of accounting.

About the role

The Finance Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day financial management of TCCG, including:

- preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports;
- budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management;
- monitoring financial performance across different services and programs;
- general ledger oversight and balance sheet reconciliations;
- accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight;
- payroll and associated financial processes;
- preparation and coordination of year-end financial information and external audit requirements;
- statutory financial reporting and compliance obligations;
- funding, acquittal and financial reporting requirements where applicable;
- maintaining oversight of TCCG’s fixed asset register and asset management processes;

- supporting the financial management of TCCG’s property portfolio, including leases, insurance, capital expenditure and property-related costs; and
- assisting with budgeting and financial oversight of major repairs, maintenance and capital works.
- providing financial information, analysis and advice to the Director and Board;
- maintaining effective financial controls, systems and processes;
- identifying opportunities to improve financial reporting and administrative efficiencies; and
- working collaboratively with TCCG's external accountant, auditors and other professional advisers.

About you

We are looking for someone with strong financial capability who can also communicate well with people across an organisation.

You will ideally have

- relevant qualifications in accounting, finance or a related discipline;
- demonstrated experience in a finance management, accounting or similar senior finance role;
- experience preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial reports;
- strong reconciliation, general ledger and financial control skills;
- a sound understanding of payroll, taxation and statutory financial obligations;
- strong Excel skills and confidence working across financial and business systems;
- excellent attention to detail and organisational skills;

- the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines;
- the ability to explain financial information clearly to people without a finance background; and
- a collaborative, practical and solutions-focused approach.

Experience in the not-for-profit, community services, education and care or human services sectors would be highly regarded. Knowledge or experience of the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) system and financial processes within an education and care environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.

CPA or CA qualifications would also be well regarded; however, we welcome applications from candidates with strong practical accounting experience and demonstrated capability.

Why work with TCCG?

This is a wide-ranging finance role within an established Northern Territory organisation, with the opportunity to work closely with senior management and contribute directly to organisational decision-making. You will have oversight across a diverse range of services and the opportunity to understand how each part of the organisation operates, rather than being confined to one area of finance.

TCCG offers a supportive working environment and values people who are practical, collaborative and willing to contribute to the organisation as a whole.

Applications

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience. This is a rolling recruitment process. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and suitable applicants may be invited to interview at any time during the advertising period. TCCG may appoint to the position before the advertised closing date, so early applications are encouraged.
