Axial Training | Full Time | Senior Leadership Role

Axial Training is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Finance to join our Leadership Team in a key senior role reporting directly to the CEO.

Axial Training is a long-established Australian Registered Training Organisation delivering nationally recognised vocational education and training across Queensland and New South Wales. Established in 1997, Axial works closely with employers, apprentices, trainees, schools and industry to deliver practical, employment-focused training across a broad range of sectors. We are a growing, values-driven organisation with a strong focus on quality, compliance, student outcomes and long-term industry partnerships.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished finance professional who brings extensive experience across Australian accounting, finance and commercial management and who enjoys being genuinely involved in the business, not simply reporting on it.

We are looking for someone capable of taking complete ownership of the finance function, providing strong financial governance and commercial insight, supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring our financial systems, controls and reporting continue to evolve with the organisation.

You will work closely with the CEO and senior leaders across the business and will be expected to understand both the numbers and what is driving them.

The role

As Head of Finance, you will have oversight of the end-to-end finance function, including:

- Full financial management of the business, including P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow, working capital and financial performance
- Preparation and oversight of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting
- Budget preparation, forecasting, financial modelling and variance analysis
- Cash-flow forecasting, treasury and banking relationships
- Management accounting and meaningful analysis of business performance, margins, costs and profitability




- Providing the CEO and Leadership Team with commercial insights, recommendations and financial advice to support strategic decisions
- Oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, credit control, collections and general ledger functions
- Payroll oversight and associated financial controls
- Australian taxation obligations, including GST, BAS, FBT, payroll tax, income tax and liaison with external tax advisers
- Ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, applicable Australian taxation requirements and financial regulatory obligations
- Preparation for and management of external audit and year-end processes
- Development and maintenance of strong internal financial controls, policies, delegations and approval processes
- Financial risk identification, management and mitigation
- Capital expenditure, procurement and cost-control oversight
- Contract and commercial financial review where required
- Supporting business planning, growth initiatives, investment decisions and major projects
- Management and development of the finance team
- Working collaboratively with operations, Administration, sales, HR and other business functions
- Supporting future finance-system transformation and implementation projects.

About you You will be an experienced senior finance professional who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with commercial judgement and leadership capability.

We are particularly interested in candidates with significant Australian finance experience and a deep understanding of Australian accounting practices, taxation, statutory reporting and financial governance.

Ideally, you will bring around 10+ years of progressive finance experience,



including several years operating at Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Finance Director or similar senior level.

A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce is desirable, with CA or CPA qualifications highly regarded.

You will be confident working directly with a CEO and senior leadership team, able to challenge constructively when required, communicate complex financial information clearly and balance strong financial governance with commercial pragmatism.

Experience with IFRS, multinational or international reporting environments, major systems implementations and/or SAP, particularly SAP FI/CO, would be highly regarded but is not essential. SAP experience is viewed as a valuable advantage given the potential for future system transformation; we are not looking to exclude an excellent Australian finance leader simply because they have not previously worked in SAP.

Experience within education, training, professional services or another regulated environment would also be advantageous but is not essential.
