As a Funeral Director your role is to assist with providing funeral services to our local and broader region from our Atherton and Mareeba funeral homes, with the flexibility of working between both sites as needed and also partaking in a rotating On-Call roster. You will oversee, direct, and coordinate all aspects of funeral services including body preparation, viewings, services, burials, and cremations, while providing caring support and advice to families and friends of the deceased. As a Funeral Director it is also essential that you will actively contribute to a friendly and positive working setting where business outcomes, customer service and staff cooperation are the focus.
Your responsibilities as a Funeral Director will be achieved through excellent interpersonal skills and by meticulous attention to detail in organising funerals. Each funeral will reflect the individual situation & preferences of each family as decided by them after the full product and service options have been presented to them.
The nature of funeral services requires staff to be multi-skilled and to work cooperatively with their team. At times you may be required to perform duties not specified in this in order to support the operations of the funeral home and to ensure good customer service.
● Provide knowledgeable and caring support to family and friends of deceased; meet with family and/or friends of the deceased to discuss the nature and time of funeral arrangements to be conducted. Identifying specific funeral service needs with sensitivity to client grief as well as their personal beliefs, traditions, rituals, and special requests.
● Provide exceptional customer service at all levels of contact from face-to-face contact,
email correspondence to telephone conversations.
● Complete the necessary Funeral documentation correctly, confirming with families that all documented details, eg spelling of names, are correct. Ensuring the family representative signs of on the funeral service agreement/contract.
● Explain costs and payment terms clearly
● Tactfully discuss the options and preference for disposition of the remains; address and explain the costs of the funeral with family and/or friends of the deceased.
● Coordinate practical arrangements for the funeral that are respectful, professional, timely, and sensitive. This may include transferring the body to the burial site, or arranging viewings and services.
● Coordinate the transfer of the body or remains to the funeral home.
● Liaise with service providers, such as clergy, florist, newspapers and other suppliers.
● Make arrangements with cemeteries & stonemason for scheduling, opening, and closing of facilities and gravesites/mausoleums/vaults, as necessary.
● Oversee the submitting of death notices, obituaries, and related paperwork to government agencies and preferred newspapers or other appropriate media.
● Ensure paperwork is filed in a timely and orderly manner, consulting with family to obtain accurate and necessary information for completion.
● Contributing to the maintenance and cleaning of both the funeral home facilities and motor vehicles
● Ensuring you are well presented with clean & tidy uniform (including polished shoes) and well groomed
● Performs other related duties as assigned.

Pay: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
