The King’s School introduced the IB Diploma Programme in 2025. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the IB English curriculum as part of a dual pathway offering.

Please note, this is a permanent full-time opportunity commencing in Term 1 2027 at The King's School in North Parramatta.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Head of English, you will provide strategic and educational leadership for English across Years 7–12, with responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning, curriculum development, assessment, staff leadership and student achievement.

Reporting to the Deputy Head Academics, you will lead a cohesive and high-performing team of teachers, establishing clear expectations for excellence while fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, accountability and continuous improvement.

You will use contemporary research, student achievement data and evidence-informed practice to identify opportunities for improvement and lead initiatives that have a measurable impact on student learning.

Key responsibilities include

- Provide strategic direction and educational leadership for English across Years 7–12.
- Lead the development and implementation of high-quality, rigorous and engaging English curriculum and pedagogy.
- Maintain and extend the Department’s strong record of HSC achievement across English Standard, Advanced, EAL/D and Extension courses.
- Build the capability of teachers through effective coaching, professional learning, collaboration and feedback.
- Work with your team in establishing high expectations for teaching quality, student learning,



academic rigour and professional accountability.
- Use assessment data and other evidence to evaluate student progress, identify areas for improvement and inform Department priorities.
- Lead effective assessment, moderation and reporting practices to ensure consistency, reliability and alignment with NESA requirements.
- Ensure curriculum programs and assessment practices reflect syllabus requirements, contemporary educational research and School priorities.
- Support teachers to differentiate learning and provide appropriate challenge, extension and support for the full range of learners.
- Lead Department planning, goal setting, evaluation and continuous improvement processes.
- Manage Department resources, staffing requirements and operational priorities effectively.
- Work collaboratively with academic leaders across the School to contribute to whole-School teaching and learning priorities.
- Work with your team in promoting a culture in which intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, reading, writing and a genuine appreciation of literature are valued and celebrated.

- Appropriate NESA teacher accreditation and a current Working With Children Check.
