The Opportunity

We are seeking an inspiring and committed educational leader to join our Secondary School as Head of Learning Area - English. This is a leadership opportunity for a passionate educator who is dedicated to academic excellence, Christian education and the holistic development of young people.

As Head of English, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across Years 7 to 12, driving high-quality teaching, learning and assessment practices that support strong student outcomes. You will lead curriculum planning and implementation, ensure compliance with Western Australian Curriculum and SCSA requirements, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability within your team.

Working closely with Secondary College leadership, you will develop the professional capacity of staff through mentoring, coaching and ongoing support, while modelling excellence in teaching, leadership and professional conduct. You will play a key role in advancing the College’s Christian mission, vision, values and Statement of Faith, ensuring that faith and learning are authentically integrated throughout the Learning Area.

This position is ideal for an experienced educator and leader who is passionate about empowering staff, engaging students and shaping a thriving learning culture that enables every student to flourish academically, personally and spiritually.

Key Responsibilities

- Model and support the College’s Christian faith, mission, vision, values and Statement of Faith through leadership, teaching and professional conduct.
- Responsible for high-quality learning experiences for students in Years 7 to 12 through the day-to-day planning, implementation, assessment, documentation and reporting.




- Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Learning Area to ensure high-quality learning experiences and strong academic outcomes for students in Years 7 to 12. Candidates with experience teaching Year 11 and 12 ATAR English are preferred.
- Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum, SCSA requirements and College priorities.
- Develop and support the professional capacity of Learning Area staff through continual feedback, guidance, leading by example and implementing all leadership directives in order to improve teaching practice, student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
- Lead a positive culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Responsible for academic standards, curriculum compliance, Learning Area operations and the effective stewardship of staff, resources and budgets.
- The Head of Learning Area Position Description is to be read in conjunction with, and is additional to, the Secondary Teacher Position Description.
- Uphold the College's child safety, safeguarding and wellbeing requirements, following all relevant policies and procedures.

About You You are a tertiary qualified, experienced and relational educational leader who is passionate about teaching and learning and committed to helping students and staff flourish. You bring strong curriculum and assessment expertise, a collaborative leadership style, and a genuine desire to develop the capability of others, creating learning environments where excellence, collaboration and innovation thrive.

You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Education and demonstrate a strong understanding of contemporary curriculum, assessment and pedagogical practice. You are confident leading curriculum, assessment and teaching practice, while understanding that great leadership is ultimately about developing people. Through authentic relationships, coaching and ongoing support, you empower colleagues to grow professionally and achieve their best.

With a practical, hands-on approach, you can balance strategic thinking with day-to-day leadership responsibilities. You use data, feedback and reflection to inform decisions, improve outcomes and lead meaningful change across your Learning Area.

Most importantly, you have a personal faith in Jesus Christ, demonstrated through a Christ-centred lifestyle and active involvement in a local church. You are passionate about Christian education and committed to supporting and modelling the College's mission, values and spiritual life through your leadership, teaching and professional practice.
