The Role

n

We are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel to join our client in Melbourne on a 3-month contract (with the potential to extend).

n

Working with our client, a Victorian‐based not‐for‐profit, you will be supporting the in‐house legal team across a broad range of day‐to‐day commercial legal matters. This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior lawyer looking to build their in‐house experience in a purpose‐driven organisation with a creative and community‐focused mission.

This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, is keen to learn, and is comfortable working closely with internal stakeholders to provide practical and commercial support.

Key Responsibilities

n

- Provide legal support across a broad range of general commercial matters including contract negotiation, marketing and promotions review, procurement, IT and more.
n
- Review, draft and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts and agreements.
n
- Assist with advising internal stakeholders on day‐to‐day legal issues, balancing risk with commercial and operational objectives.

- Support the business with policy, compliance and governance‐related matters as required.
n
- Work closely with internal teams to help identify legal risks and contribute to practical solutions.
n
- Assist with legal research, document review and other tasks to support the wider legal function.
n
- Contribute to the smooth running of legal matters in a fast‐paced, collaborative environment.

About You

n

n
- A qualified lawyer with 2-4 PQE, ideally with experience in general commercial law.
n
- Experience gained in a reputable law firm and/or in‐house legal team.
n
- Strong drafting and communication skills, with the ability to explain issues clearly and practically.
n
- A genuine interest in working in an in‐house environment and supporting a diverse stakeholder group.
n
- Positive attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
n
- A proactive, collaborative and positive attitude.
n
- Interest in the arts, culture or not‐for‐profit sector will be highly regarded.
n
- You must have full Australian working rights. We cannot offer sponsorship at this time.
