An opportunity exists for an experienced LOCUM DENTIST (GENERAL PRACTICE) to join a modern, patient-focused healthcare practice based in Newcastle, Northern KwaZulu-Natal.

This opportunity is suited to a clinically competent and ethical practitioner who enjoys delivering quality dental care while building long-term relationships with patients and working within a team-oriented professional environment. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive oral healthcare services while maintaining high clinical, regulatory and patient-care standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Perform comprehensive oral examinations and formulate treatment plans.
- Diagnose and treat dental diseases and conditions.
- Carry out restorative procedures including fillings, crowns and bridges.
- Perform extractions and routine oral surgery procedures.
- Conduct root canal treatment and endodontic procedures where competent.
- Deliver preventative and periodontal treatments.
- Interpret radiographs and diagnostic imaging.
- Educate patients regarding oral hygiene and preventative care.
- Obtain informed consent and clearly explain treatment options and costs.




- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Ensure strict compliance with infection prevention and sterilisation protocols.
- Work closely with dental assistants and support staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Deliver excellent patient care and maintain a professional bedside manner.
- Manage treatment appointments effectively while maintaining quality standards.
- Participate in case discussions and continuous professional development.
- Remain current with modern dental technologies, procedures and evidence-based practices.
- Maintain ethical and professional standards in accordance with HPCSA requirements.
- Promote a positive and patient-centred practice culture.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

- BChD, BDS or equivalent recognised Dental Degree.
- Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Eligible to practice independently within South Africa.
- Experience within private practice advantageous.
- Sound knowledge of restorative and preventative dentistry.
- Ability to perform routine dental procedures including: Examinations Fillings Extractions Crowns and bridge work Root canal therapy Periodontal procedures Understanding of dental radiography and diagnostic imaging.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and sterilisation protocols.
- Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with dental assistants and administrative personnel.
- Strong time management and record-keeping skills.
- Commitment to ethical practice and patient safety.
- Interest or experience in cosmetic dentistry, paediatric dentistry, endodontics or advanced restorative procedures advantageous.
- Computer literacy and exposure to digital patient management systems advantageous.
- Continuing professional development and willingness to adopt modern technologies advantageous.

- Local residency or willingness to relocate required.
