Accounting Team Assistant: Client & Office Accounting Administration

About the Opportunity
We’re growing and are looking for an Accounting Team Assistant to join our Sydney office!
You’ll work closely with our friendly team, including our Senior Accounting Administrator. Initially, in this role, we'll ask you to assist with checking and updating accounting transactions as part of a software transition project. Once this has been completed, on a regular basis, you’ll own a combination of regular accounting administration tasks for our client matters as well as for our offices, and be up for assisting our team as needs arise.

This is a full‑time role based in our Sydney office. We embrace hybrid work as the best of both worlds. Most of us enjoy being in the office with our colleagues about 2–3 days a week, and working from home about 2–3 days a week.

Key Responsibilities
- Initially, assisting with checking and updating accounting transactions as part of a software transition project
Client Matter Administration Support
- Conducting our standard independence checking process and preparing client appointment documents for potential insolvency and restructuring matters from our document templates
- New matter file set up and other standard tasks for a new matter, including preparing and issuing standard correspondence from our document templates and other “day one” administration
- Preparing funds receipt and payment accounting entries when funds are received or to be paid on individual client matters
- Regular bank reconciliations for individual client matter bank accounts
- Setting up payments for approval in our client matter banking system
- Assisting with Business Activity Statement (BAS) preparation and lodgement with the ATO
- Assisting with the preparation and lodgement of relevant ASIC statutory forms
- Monitoring regular instalment payments and following up outstanding payments
- Assisting with basic income assessments for bankruptcy matters
- Dispatch of reports to creditors, primarily by email, with some by postal mail
- Supporting in the file finalisation and closure process
- Other accounting and administration assistance as requested by the team
Team & Office Support
- Assisting with our preparation for new starters and looking after some of our onboarding steps
- Supporting with recruitment administration
- Ordering of office supplies and equipment
- Assisting with the payments process for firm expenses
- Event and office coordination, including external and internal training, team events, team interstate travel (flights and accommodation), and seasonal initiatives
- Other administrative support for smooth team and office operations

Required for this position
- An introductory understanding of accounting, accounting entries and accounting software
- A strong sense of responsibility and care for doing things properly
- The ability to work autonomously and in a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Robust organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- A willingness and ability to learn quickly
- A collaborative, helpful mindset
- Previous experience in a similar role, especially in an insolvency, accounting or law firm is not compulsory but would be highly regarded
