About the role

Marrin Weejali provides culturally safe alcohol and other drug (AOD), mental health counselling, referral, and advocacy services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Western Sydney. Our holistic approach includes comprehensive assessments and individualised care plans that integrate evidence-based interventions and therapeutic practices. We support clients to address underlying challenges, build resilience, develop new skills, and achieve their goals for healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Key responsibilities

- Provide individual and group counselling to support clients throughout their recovery journey

- Facilitate educational workshops and community awareness activities focused on substance misuse risk factors and relapse prevention strategies, social and emotional wellbeing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed skills, and domestic, family, and sexual violence awareness

- Deliver evidence-based interventions, care coordination, case management, and support strategies





- Advocate for culturally protected pathways to treatment and rehabilitation and contribute to initiatives that improve service accessibility and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities

- Participate in community events, outreach activities, and cultural initiatives that strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

- Promote culturally secure practices and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive service environment

- Work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

About you

- Minimum Certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Counselling, or a related field

- Demonstrated experience (minimum two years preferred) supporting individuals experiencing alcohol and other drug challenges, co-occurring mental health concerns, and complex needs

- Ability to provide high-quality, culturally safe, trauma-informed support using a strengths-based approach that promotes self-determination

- Current Working with Children Check

- National Criminal History Check (or ability to obtain)
