The Opportunity The Mission Capability Division (MCDiv) is responsible for delivering and sustaining critical intelligence capabilities that support ASD's mission objectives. The division manages the implementation, operation, maintenance and continual enhancement of complex ICT and technical systems, ensuring their reliability, security and operational effectiveness. This includes end-to-end lifecycle management of infrastructure and capabilities, service assurance, systems engineering, configuration and optimisation, and the development of supporting processes and documentation.
MCDiv brings together multidisciplinary teams of analysts, engineers, developers, technicians and project specialists who work collaboratively to solve complex access and intelligence challenges, deliver new capabilities, and maintain critical operational systems. The division also oversees the operation and sustainment of ASD's remote intelligence facilities, providing unique technical, operational and engineering services that contribute to Australia's national security outcomes. ASD is comprised of members of diverse skills and disciplines who work together to deliver our vital mission capabilities and operations.
Key Duties:
- Lead and coordinate the delivery, operation and sustainment of critical ICT and technical infrastructure, ensuring systems remain reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
- Oversee the lifecycle management of hardware and infrastructure assets, including planning, deployment, maintenance, upgrades, inventory management and decommissioning.
- Manage and optimise infrastructure resources, including facilities, power, cooling, and space utilisation to maintain operational effectiveness and support future capability requirements.
- Coordinate the monitoring, investigation and resolution of infrastructure incidents, faults and service issues, working collaboratively with technical teams and stakeholders to minimise operational impacts.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance and advice to multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, asset records and operational artefacts to support governance, assurance and effective service delivery.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and service providers, to support capability delivery, maintenance and operational outcomes.
- Support security,
compliance and assurance activities by adhering to relevant standards, policies and governance requirements.
- Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity and utilisation trends, providing recommendations and planning support for future operational and business needs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by reviewing work practices, identifying opportunities for optimisation, and implementing enhancements to systems, processes and service delivery.

Our ideal candidate will
- Have experience in leading ICT hardware infrastructure and/or data centre activities in a complex ICT environment.
- Capable of quickly comprehending complex ICT systems and requirements.
- Value and work proactively to apply ICT service management principles.
- Have strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate documentation, records and processes.
- Works productively, both independently and collaboratively, and delegates work appropriately.
- Ability to apply sound judgement and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in a dynamic operational environment.
- Solid analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve technical and operational issues.
- Communicates effectively, by all modes of communication.
- Manages their time and priorities effectively and negotiates conflicts.
- Seek out and ensures use of industry best practice to ensure plans are aligned to meet corporate sustainability targets.
To be eligible for employment with ASD, you must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:
- Australian Citizenship - Applicants must be an Australian citizen. Only in exceptional circumstances can this requirement be waivered.
- Organisational Suitability Assessment – The preferred applicant will be required to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (see Organisational Assessment section).
- Security Clearance - It is a condition of employment that applicants are willing and able to obtain and maintain the requisite security clearance for the duration of their employment with ASD.
- Health Assessment - The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the Agency’s preferred medical provider.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience or Training
Relevant tertiary qualifications, industry certifications or equivalent practical experience are highly regarded, together with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Enterprise ICT infrastructure, systems administration, network operations or technical support.
- Data centre, communications, facilities or other critical technology environments.
- ICT hardware lifecycle management, including deployment, sustainment, asset management and decommissioning.
- IT Service Management frameworks and methodologies (such as ITIL) and their application in complex environments.
- Network fundamentals, transmission technologies and communications infrastructure.
- Systems monitoring, incident management and service assurance.
- Infrastructure, facilities or capability planning and optimisation.
- Project delivery, coordination or technical implementation activities.
- Linux, Windows or other enterprise technology platforms.
- Relevant industry certifications and professional development in ICT, infrastructure, engineering or project management disciplines.
Relevant tertiary qualifications, professional certifications and experience working in secure, operational or mission-critical environments will be highly regarded.
