Your New CompanyOur client is a fast-growing and innovative business experiencing an exciting period of growth and expansion. They are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their close-knit finance team in a newly created position, working directly alongside an experienced and supportive CFO. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting qualified who enjoys a hands-on role and is looking to broaden their experience beyond transactional finance. Initially focused on core finance operations, the position offers a clear pathway into month-end processes, reporting, reconciliations, and broader commercial accounting responsibilities. Offering flexibility around working hours and a collaborative team environment, this role would suit someone seeking a genuine accounting position while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Your RoleReporting directly to the CFO, you will take ownership of key day-to-day finance functions and play an integral role in supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key responsibilities include
- Daily bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- End-to-end Accounts Payable processing
- Preparation of payroll, including STP and superannuation processing
- Processing commissions and recipient-created tax invoices (RCTIs)
- Reconciliation of merchant settlements and billing activities
- Investigating and resolving reconciliation discrepancies and exceptions
- Assisting with month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Supporting BAS preparation and financial reporting activities
- Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation
- Contributing to process improvements and financial system efficiencies
What you'll needTo be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Officer, Bookkeeper or similar finance position
- Demonstrated experience managing bank reconciliations and Accounts Payable functions
- Exposure to payroll processing and general accounting activities
- Strong working knowledge of Xero or a similar cloud-based accounting system
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work autonomously
- A willingness to learn and develop within a growing business environment
