What we do The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Division is part of the Technology and Digital Programs (TDP) Group. The division provides the architectural, innovation, assurance, technology and workforce plans that underpin whole-of-government ICT capabilities. We empower TDP's workforce to create secure and easy digital government services that Australians trust.

The CTO Division brings together strategic technology leadership, governance, assurance and workforce capability to support the delivery of secure, reliable and resilient digital services. Working across a large and complex ICT environment, the division partners with business and technical stakeholders to strengthen organisational capability, manage risk and support the continuity of critical services that Australians rely on every day.

Assistant Directors – Risk Management and Business Continuity support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of risk management and business continuity practices across Technology and Digital Programs (TDP).

The role undertakes risk assessments,



facilitates business impact analysis activities, develops and maintains business continuity plans, and supports continuity testing and preparedness activities. The position works closely with business areas, risk specialists and technical stakeholders to identify critical business processes, dependencies, recovery requirements and opportunities to strengthen organisational resilience.

Working under broad direction, the Assistant Director exercises considerable independence, provides specialist advice and contributes to the delivery of risk management and business continuity outcomes across complex business and ICT environments.

- Develop, implement and continuously improve risk management and business continuity frameworks, policies, plans and supporting documentation to strengthen organisational resilience.
- Lead risk assessments and Business Impact Analysis activities to identify critical business processes, operational dependencies, recovery priorities and continuity requirements.
- Develop, review and maintain Business Continuity Plans in partnership with business and technical stakeholders to ensure continuity arrangements remain effective and relevant.
- Plan, facilitate and evaluate business continuity exercises, testing and preparedness activities, identifying opportunities to strengthen resilience and recovery capability.
- Monitor risk controls, treatment plans, continuity activities and control effectiveness,



providing recommendations to address gaps and improve risk outcomes.
- Analyse risk information, business impacts and emerging trends to identify vulnerabilities and inform risk mitigation and resilience strategies.
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefs, governance papers and recommendations to support decision-making, assurance activities and governance requirements.
- Lead and develop staff by providing clear direction, coaching and mentoring, managing performance, fostering an inclusive team culture and building capability to deliver business outcomes.

Security Clearance level required: Baseline (or ability to obtain and maintain).

In accordance with section 22(6) of the Public Service Act 1999, Services Australia requires applicants to be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment with Services Australia.

An applicant’s suitability for employment with the agency will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes but is not limited to a national police history check, referee checks, code of conduct check and an employment history integrity check.

Some positions within Services Australia may be required to work in settings where mandatory vaccinations are required. Staff in such positions will need to demonstrate that they meet the vaccination requirements or have a relevant exemption.
