About SMM

Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) is a global provider of metals and commodity market intelligence. We support companies across the value chain with pricing information, market data, research, consulting and industry services that help them make better commercial decisions.

What you will do

- Identify and approach prospective customers across mining, metals production, trading, manufacturing, recycling, financial services and other commodity-related sectors.

- Build a practical target-account list and create new opportunities through LinkedIn, email, calls, referrals, industry events and partner networks.

- Speak with customers to understand their workflows, information needs and commercial challenges, then connect them with the most relevant SMM products and services.

- Arrange and deliver introductory meetings, product demonstrations and commercial proposals, with support from SMM’s research, product and service teams.

- Manage opportunities from first contact through follow-up, trial, negotiation and closing, while keeping CRM and pipeline information accurate.

- Develop existing accounts by identifying opportunities for renewal, cross-selling and deeper engagement.

- Represent SMM at selected mining, metals and commodity conferences, customer meetings and industry networking events.

- Share customer feedback and market observations with internal teams to improve our products, positioning and local go-to-market approach.

What we are looking for

- Approximately 2–5 years of skilled experience in business development, sales,



account management, customer success, partnerships or another customer-facing commercial role.

- Experience in at least one relevant environment: commodity intelligence, price reporting, market data, mining, metals, energy, commodity trading, industrial supply chains, industry information services or related B2B services.

- A genuine interest in metals and commodities, with the curiosity to understand how different customers use data, pricing, research and market insight.

- Confidence initiating conversations with new people and the resilience to follow through consistently.

- Clear spoken and written English, with the ability to explain business value in a practical and customer-friendly way.

- Organised working habits and willingness to manage outreach, follow-ups and pipeline activity in a disciplined manner.

- Ability to work independently in Australia while collaborating closely with colleagues across different markets and time zones.

- Existing legal right to work in Australia.
