Girls On Fire is seeking two new Board Members due to retirement

Company Description Girls on Fire Australia empowers young people aged 14–19 with practical skills in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and leadership. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experiences, the organisation creates transparent pathways into careers and volunteer roles across emergency services. Programs are designed to build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of community connection, particularly in regional and remote areas.

Girls on Fire actively promotes diversity, inclusion, and greater female representation in emergency services while collaborating with schools, industry partners, and agencies to deliver impactful education. The organization relies on sponsorships, funding partnerships, and in-kind support to expand its programs and reach more young people.

Role Description The Board Member role is a volunteer position, based in Sydney, NSW, with a hybrid arrangement that allows remote arrangements.

Board

Members provide strategic oversight, help shape organizational priorities, and ensure good governance and compliance with legal and ethical standards. Typical responsibilities include attending regular board and committee meetings, reviewing financial reports and program outcomes, and contributing to policy and risk management discussions.

Board

Members also support stakeholder engagement by fostering relationships with sponsors, partners, and community organizations, and may assist with fundraising, advocacy, and promotion of Girls on Fire’s mission. This role involves collaborating with fellow board members and the executive team to guide long-term sustainability and growth. As a Board Director for Girls on Fire, you will provide strategic governance and leadership to help empower young women and gender-diverse youth through resilience, disaster preparedness, and emergency services education. You will safeguard the charity's mission,



ensure financial sustainability, and actively drive strategic growth to support national program expansion

Applicants with experience in finance or partnerships, as well as AICD qualifications will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

· Strategic Growth & Funding: Actively identify, pursue, and secure corporate partnerships, philanthropic grants, and sustainable funding sources to scale the organisation's impact.

· Strategic Guidance: Shape and monitor the organisation's strategic plan, vision, and long-term goals.

· Governance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations, including ACNC standards.

· Financial Oversight: Review annual budgets, financial forecasts, and audit reports to guarantee fiscal health.

· Advocacy and Networking: Leverage personal and professional networks to raise the organisation's profile across the emergency services, government, and corporate sectors.

· Executive Support: Provide mentorship, oversight, and performance feedback to the CEO/Founder.

Key Requirements

· Growth Mindset: Proven experience or strong networks in fundraising, corporate sponsorships, business development, or securing government/philanthropic grants.

· Value Alignment: Deep commitment to the core values of inclusion, youth empowerment, and community resilience.

· Governance Experience: Prior board-level experience or a strong understanding of not-for-profit director duties and ACNC compliance.

· Professional Background: Background in commercial partnerships, fundraising, law, risk management, or emergency services leadership.

· Time Commitment: Willingness to commit the necessary time for meetings, strategic sessions, and networking events.

· Compliance Checks: Eligibility to act as a charity "Responsible Person" in Australia, including holding a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
