About the role

Wyndham City Youth Services is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of the young people in one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria. Our Youth Services team support young people aged 12 to 25 years and their families who have a connection to Wyndham.

Currently, young people make over 17% of the total Wyndham population, with this comes a distinct need for youth related services. Every day we strive to keep young people engaged, inspired and feeling part of the community through a range of programs, events and support.

Our growing service is made up of 43 employees and work across four locations across Wyndham, including a state-of-the-art mobile youth facility. We run more than 400 community programs, committees, school sessions and events and engage a total of 15,000 young people and their families into our service annually.

As a qualified and experienced Youth Development Officer, you will join a passionate and team-oriented Youth Services team committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young people across Wyndham. You will engage with our growing population of young people through a diverse range of programs, events and services that foster connection, participation and a strong sense of belonging within the community. Youth Services is committed to ensuring young people are empowered to have a genuine voice in the design, development and delivery of initiatives that affect them, and we are looking for someone who shares this passion.

In this role, you will develop and facilitate engaging activities, programs, events and services for young people aged 12 to 25 who live, work, study or recreate in the City of Wyndham. With a strong focus on community engagement and youth participation, you will build positive relationships and networks with young people, community organisations and stakeholders to create opportunities for participation and connection. You will also play a key role in planning and delivering events, where your robust organisational, collaboration and engagement skills will contribute to positive outcomes for young people.

You will develop, deliver and evaluate projects and services aligned with Wyndham City’s strategic priorities for Youth Services, while working collaboratively with community organisations, agencies and external stakeholders to strengthen the capacity, resilience and participation of young people. You will also advocate for the rights and needs of young people and support their personal and professional development.

What your day will look like

- Develop, facilitate and evaluate youth programs,



events and activities that respond to the needs of young people, ensuring that young people have a say in the process.
- Complete risk management assessments for programs, events and activities.
- Work collaboratively with the team to engage and empower our young people from the community.
- Grow and develop partnerships with the greater community relevant Schools and stakeholders.
- Create and support innovative initiatives that build young people’s capacity and resilience, while fostering participation, connection and local pride.
- Engage with young people through meaningful consultation and participation processes, ensuring they have genuine opportunities to influence decisions and shape services.
- Provide early intervention support to young people and families through information, referrals and advocacy.
- Build strong community connections and coordinate local initiatives that respond to the existing and emerging needs of young people and their families.
- Monitor program outcomes, collect and analyse data, and contribute to reporting on service delivery, achievements, consultation findings and emerging issues.
- Support the continuous improvement of Youth Services by reviewing policies, procedures, data and community needs.
- Supervise and support casual staff, work experience students and volunteers, encouraging reflective practice and professional development.

What you will bring

Mandatory Qualifications as outlined in the Position Description –

- Degree qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work or a related discipline and relevant experience in the generalist Youth Sector or lesser formal qualification and substantial relevant experience in the Youth Sector

In addition to the above qualifications:

- Experience developing, facilitating and evaluating youth programs, events and activities ensuring that young people have a say in the process
- Working collaboratively with the team to engage and empower our young people from the community
- Ability to complete risk management assessments for programs, events and activities
- Demonstrated experience working within adolescent development, group work, youth participation and community development frameworks
- Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, evaluation and reporting of programs and services
- Demonstrated experience growing and developing partnerships with the greater community, relevant Schools and stakeholders
- Be innovative and considerate for community need in current climate
- Understanding of the contemporary context and experiences of young people, the development,



challenges and transitions inherent in their life course
- Current employee Working with Children Check
- Current First Aid Certificate - Level 2
- Current Victorian drivers licence and reliable vehicle to travel around the municipality (essential)
