The Role

Joint Logistics Unit – South Queensland (JLU - SQ) Business Manager (BM) is an integral part of the Executive Team, reporting directly to the Commanding Officer. This role will be varied and include workforce management, finance, business process management and providing advice and guidance to stakeholders.

In this role, you will lead a team of 14 professionals that provide the business, compliance, stocktaking and environmental management for the unit. In providing support to the unit, you will be required to routinely travel to and visit all three major sites in the South Queensland region.

Some of the key duties of this role are:

- Overseeing and Managing recruitment as well as workforce planning.
- Managing the Unit budget, ensuring efficient allocation and utilisation of Commonwealth funds.
- Overseeing the Compliance, Stocktaking, Facilities and Work Health & Safety functions for the unit.
- Oversee and implement business processes, Standing Instructions and procedures.

About our Team The APS 6 Business Manager is the lead role of the Business Management Branch within Joint Logistics Unit South Queensland (JLU - SQ), located at RAAF Base Amberley.

Unit – South Queensland sites that you will be required to support (remote and in-person) include Damascus Barracks and Wallangarra Stores Depot. You will also be required to support other non-standard locations on an ad-hoc basis for major Operations, Activities and Investments that the unit is required to support.

Our team of specialists are responsible for supporting the administration, information, knowledge management, compliance, stocktaking, Security, Work Health & Safety, equipment, finance and facilities management on behalf of the Business Manager. In order to deliver the breadth of outcomes the BM has seven direct reports and seven APS and ADF staff.

You will enjoy engaging with a diverse workforce that includes Australian Defence Force, Australian Public Service and industry partners, which is crucial to effective performance in this role. You will be an excellent communicator who can quickly disseminate information across the organisation. You will be able to apply your well-developed problem solving skills to find timely and effective solutions to complex tasks.

You will have knowledge of Defence Policy’s to advise unit leadership on conditions of service for both Australian Defence Force and Australian Pubic Service.

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
