Centre for Women's Economic Safety
Erskineville
About the role
Make the organisation work brilliantly behind the work that matters.
The Centre for Women's Economic Safety (CWES) exists to support women experiencing economic abuse in the context of family and domestic violence, and to create the systemic change needed to prevent it. We're entering an important next stage of growth and are looking for an exceptional Business Operations Manager to help build the organisational capability behind that work.
This isn't an Executive Assistant role. And we're not looking for someone who simply keeps an administration list moving.
We need an organisational integrator.
Someone who can see across a small, complex organisation, turn priorities into action, build better systems, coordinate people and providers, anticipate roadblocks and make sure important things actually happen.
What you'll own
Working closely with the CEO, you'll take responsibility for the operational engine room of CWES, including:
- coordinating organisational priorities, projects, workplans and deadlines
- supporting the CEO to maintain focus on the highest-value strategic priorities
- overseeing business administration and coordinating finance, HR, IT and other external service providers
- coordinating grants, contracts, suppliers and organisational commitments
- managing employee and contractor onboarding and associated processes
- strengthening policies, procedures, templates and organisational documentation
- coordinating systems, technology, and digital workflows including implementing a CRM
- identifying opportunities to automate, simplify and improve how work gets done
- triaging organisational enquiries and ensuring they reach the right person
- coordinating cross-organisational initiatives, campaigns and events
- working with the Company Secretary and Board to support governance processes, reporting cycles, actions and organisational registers
- keeping sight of risks, dependencies and roadblocks—and helping remove them before they become problems.
You won't personally be the finance, HR, IT,
legal or communications expert. CWES draws on specialist external capability where appropriate.
Your job is to make sure all the pieces connect.
Who we're looking for
Your career may have been in business operations, project or program management, professional services, consulting, a purpose-led organisation or a growing small business. Your title matters less than what you've actually been responsible for.
We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate that they have:
- held genuine responsibility for business or organisational operations
- coordinated multiple priorities across an organisation, rather than only supporting one executive
- built or significantly improved systems, processes or workflows
- confidently used technology to make work simpler and more effective
- managed external suppliers, contractors or skilled service providers
- exercised independent judgement and solved problems without waiting to be told what to do
- successfully moved complex work from idea to implementation.
You'll be highly organised, digitally confident and comfortable operating in an environment where priorities move quickly.
Most importantly, you're someone who sees a roadblock and instinctively thinks:
"How do we sort this out?" rather than: "Who should I tell about it?"
This role probably isn't for you if...
Your experience has primarily involved diary management, inbox management and executive administration without broader organisational accountability. Similarly, if you prefer established processes to building them, need detailed direction before taking action, or don't enjoy learning and improving digital systems, this probably won't be the right fit.
That's okay. We're looking for a particular kind of operator.
Why CWES?
You'll be joining a small organisation with national influence and an ambitious agenda. You'll have genuine scope to shape how CWES operates as it grows—and create the organisational foundations that allow our people to concentrate on improving responses to economic abuse, building financial safety and creating lasting systemic change.
