Play a key role in the Blue Economy CRC project, based out of Burnie on Tasmania’s north-west coast. This is a 12-month contract to start with, supporting an exciting offshore aquaculture research trial operating around 12km off Burnie in Bass Strait. You’ll be part of a hands‑on team working in open‑ocean conditions, helping deliver safe, reliable vessel operations while supporting research into the future of sustainable aquaculture.

Daily Requirements

- Safe Vessel Operations: Skippering vessels safely and confidently in support of daily project activities in a high energy environment.
- Project Support: Assisting with operational tasks linked to the Blue Economy CRC offshore aquaculture research trial.
- Working Offshore: Operating in open‑ocean conditions around the Burnie trial site, with a solid focus on safety, planning and teamwork.
- General Marine Duties: Supporting vessel checks, basic maintenance, equipment handling and day‑to‑day marine operations.
- Staying Compliant: Following all company procedures, safety standards, regulatory requirements and project protocols.

Required & Desired Skills





- Master < 24m Near Coastal / Master 5 Skipper’s ticket - Essential
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) - Essential
- Previous marine, aquaculture or offshore experience highly regarded
- Strong safety focus and confidence working in changing weather and sea conditions
- Reliable team player with good communication skills
- Practical, hands‑on approach and strong attention to detail
