OVERVIEW The Manager, Casework Team position with the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions is based in Melbourne and supports the delivery of welfare services for international students studying in Victoria. This full-time fixed-term role sits within the Study Melbourne team and focuses on leading casework operations, supervising staff, and ensuring high-quality, client-centred support services. The role is suited to a qualified social worker or candidate with a related qualification who can manage service delivery, stakeholder relationships, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the casework service
- Oversee intake, assessment, case planning, case allocation and case management systems
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, client-centred support services
- Provide culturally responsive leadership and direct supervision to four caseworkers
- Manage risk and casework processes
- Drive ongoing development and improvement of policies, procedures, systems and service delivery practices
- Engage with stakeholders and promote services
- Conduct data analysis and contribute to projects and initiatives supporting Study Melbourne strategic goals
- Provide leadership in adapting and applying concepts to operational matters within the local work area
- Manage a discrete function with limited budget or staff
Key responsibilities

Requirements
- Relevant tertiary degree in Social Work or another related discipline
- Mandatory qualification as outlined in the position description
- Demonstrated experience managing people and leading teams
- Experience holding teams accountable to public sector values and agreed performance standards
- Ability to anticipate and resolve issues to achieve outcomes
- Strong innovation and continuous improvement skills
- Ability to review and analyse information to improve effectiveness and quality of work
- Experience fostering a team environment that encourages innovation and creativity
- Demonstrated resilience and sound project delivery capability
- Experience leading casework or social services teams
- Experience managing service improvement initiatives
- Experience working with stakeholders
- Successful completion of a National Police Records Check prior to commencement
