The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) is looking for talented professionals to join our Hospital Policy and Classifications Branch, where you will help develop and maintain classification systems that support national hospital and aged care pricing.

Working with complex datasets, technical experts and senior stakeholders, you will contribute to evidence-based policy, provide specialist advice and help drive improvements to classifications that reflect contemporary clinical practice and service delivery.

There are many interesting and challenging roles with the Hospital Policy and Classification Branch.

Roles are available at each of the following classification levels:

- EL1 Level - Classification Manager
- APS6 Level - Classification Officer

This is an indicative list of roles at these levels. Similar roles may also be available within this branch.

As a Classification Manager (EL1), your responsibilities may include:

- Leading the design and evaluation of classification systems for hospital and aged care services, ensuring they reflect clinical practice, resource use, and service delivery models.
- Overseeing the assessment of classifications structures to ensure they are fit for purpose and enable accurate pricing.
- Supporting the interpretation of data collected from public and private hospitals, aged care facilities, and relevant government agencies to answer complex policy questions.
- Developing technical papers for the Pricing Authority (IHACPA’s governing board) and statutory advisory committees.




- Providing specialist advice to IHACPA working groups and working with stakeholders on technical issues.
- Supporting IHACPA’s Executive in explaining technical issues to external stakeholders
- Providing leadership by guiding team members, managing competing priorities, overseeing project delivery and providing strategic advice on complex issues.

As a Classification Officer (APS6), your responsibilities may include:

- Supporting the design and evaluation of classification systems for hospital and aged care services, ensuring they reflect clinical practice, resource use, and service delivery models.
- Supporting the assessment of classifications structures to ensure they are fit for purpose and enable accurate pricing.
- Supporting the interpretation of data collected from public and private hospitals, aged care facilities, and relevant government agencies to answer complex policy questions.
- Developing technical papers for the Pricing Authority (IHACPA’s governing board) and statutory advisory committees.
- Providing specialist advice to IHACPA working groups and working with stakeholders on technical issues.
- Supporting IHACPA’s Executive in explaining technical issues to external stakeholders.





To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.

An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:

- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required).

To be eligible for these roles, applicants must possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Knowledge of the Australian health system.
- Understanding of health classification systems (DRGs, AN-SNAP, aged care classifications).
- Experience in clinical classification development or practical application.
- Experience leading or contributing to projects in a energetic, stakeholder environment, and delivering successful outcomes.

This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended (this will not exceed a total of 24 months in the same or similar role).
