Primary objective

As a Physical Education Teacher and member of the school community, develop, deliver and evaluate engaging Physical Education, health and sport programs that support student achievement, wellbeing and participation. Monitor student progress, address individual learning needs and contribute to the achievement of the school's goals. Liaise and coordinate sporting and physical activity programs within the school and wider community.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Plan, prepare and explicitly deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian

Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant curriculum policies,



work programs and educational trends.
- Support students through interaction in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.
- Promote students' physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing through participation in sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyle programs.
- Regularly assess student achievement, skill development and participation through diagnostic, formative and summative assessment,

providing feedback and reporting as required.
- Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
- Coordinate and supervise sporting activities, school carnivals, interschool competitions, training programs and representative sporting opportunities.
- Ensure the safe use and management of sporting equipment, facilities and activities in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships between the school, parents, sporting organisations and the wider community.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated ability to collaboratively plan, prepare and deliver engaging Physical Education and sport programs that meet the

diverse needs, abilities and learning styles of students.




- Knowledge of contemporary Physical Education teaching practices and the ability to implement effective and inclusive learning processes, including the use of learning technologies and assessment to maximise student participation and achievement.
- Ability to communicate and relate effectively with students through appropriate interpersonal skills.

1. Ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to establishing and maintaining a supportive

learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with school staff, parents and members of the local school community in order to establish and develop productive partnerships, in an intercultural environment to achieve optimal educational outcomes.
- Commitment to maintain current and relevant qualified learning and meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
- Knowledge of safe sporting practices, injury prevention and the organisation of school sporting events and activities.

Desirable

1. Qualifications or experience in Physical Education, Health and Physical Education (HPE), Sport and Recreation, Exercise Science or a

related field.
- Experience coordinating school sporting carnivals, interschool competitions or extracurricular sporting programs.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.

All applicants completing initial teacher education (ITE) courses after 1 July 2016 are also required to provide proof of successful completion of the national Literacy and Numeracy Test for ITE students.
